2007-2012. The golden era of Call of Duty or what's so called now the biggest shooting series ever. Legendary and irreplaceable, these two words seem appropriate to explain the historical footprint that the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare series trilogy has left for the gaming industry. Infinity Ward and Activision have not only succeeded in concocting a fun FPS game through the mechanical variations it offers, but also the story and characters are ready to draw you into the story of their struggle from the first minute. Modern Warfare is a "brand" that has succeeded in combining the sensation of interactivity in a video game, a story like a big budget Hollywood film, and various dramatic actions that are engaging and thrilling.

So like the original series which was released in 2009, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered received absolutely no modifications at all on the story side. This means, you will be faced with the same dramatization sequences, the same briefings between missions, with the same story objectives in each chapter. For those of you who had played Modern Warfare 2 back in the day and still clearly remember the experience you got, there are no surprises at all here. It continues to tell the story of Soap, Roach, and Ramirez who are fighting to prevent a world war involving Russia and the figure of an Ultra-Nationalist who makes Zakhaev from the previous series a hero, Makarov. Efforts that make them have to fight in various world choices.

I haven't play the Modern Warfare Remastered only seen a couple of people play the multiplayer but from those alone I can understand (well slightly) what the quality of this Remaster version. It seems to use the same base engine, it still offers improvements in visualization quality that are significant enough to be categorized as a light "remake". You can see what kind of new presentation it injected, which makes it look different and more relevant compared to the 2009 series. One of the most obvious is the change in character models which now come with clearer details. When you meet my goat Soap for the first time, for example, you can see the texture of the clothes which is now clearer, complete with a realistic distribution of snow on the clothes. The improvements are undeniable. The sharpness of the face, clearer expressions, even small things like haircut details come to the fore here. You can also feel a similar sensation when saving Price from the gulag which, amazingly, also shows his appearance which looks a little older than the original version.

But these visual improvements don't just come from the character models. In some missions, changes in atmosphere can also be seen more clearly through the use of color contrast or the choice of different details for the skybox that is carried. Yall remember the Russian invasion to Burger Town? I kinda remember that in the original version, this urban war was presented in an orange sky with a slight grayish tint due to the smoke created. However, in this MW2 Remastered version, the atmosphere and color contrast presented really jumps sharply. The color of the sky which is now slightly reddish which is clearly due to the large number of fires burning in the distance, more smoke, and the overall lighting being darker than usual. Unfortunately, this approach also has its own negative consequences. Because the color tone is darker than the original version, while the enemy troops still retain the blackish red clothing they wear, there are many situations in the game where it becomes difficult to differentiate between enemy troops and friendly troops. The color of the clothes does not change at all, making these enemies more difficult to recognize and notice, especially when in low light conditions. Inevitably, you end up trying to shoot and eliminate anyone who moves in front of you.

Another element that is no less charming in terms of improving the visual presentation also comes from the various settings which are now filled with many small details and of course, high definition textures. There are several design improvements, such as just a communication tower on a tall building to a water barrel on the roof of a house that gives the impression of interactivity by leaking water when you accidentally hit a bullet with it. Changes to the texture settings make some terrain now more realistic, from just snow effects, ice terrain that you can climb, the color of the rocks you have to walk over, to the effect of water spilling due to heavy rain which now no longer looks like the textureless waterfall in the original series. In some locations, you can even find more realistic scenery thanks to the injection of sharper textures of mountains or ice blocks, making the battle atmosphere even stronger.

As I stated before that this is a remastered of the old Call of Duty series, you don't expect much from it. Most missions will ask you to get from point A to point B, use whatever weapons you find along the way, survive, find a little dramatized scene that makes your skin crawl, and then enjoy the next chapter. The experience you will find is not much different, with the same story line as the original version. But here is something that I noticed while playing MW2 Remastered. Playing it on the regular difficulty level which is supposed to be super easy, I found a little discomfort with the gameplay session it used, which then made it end up being more difficult than the regular mode in the original one. My game theory is I think they changed the gunplay itself. That extra adjustment, to give a more realistic impression, slows down the shooting and aiming action for certain types of weapons, even beyond what was offered in the original version. Conditions like this make the battle sensation in MW2 Remastered feel less responsive than the original version, making it difficult for you to react more quickly or as quickly as the enemy is shooting at you with high accuracy. Making several weapons, such as LMGs, for example, is now a source of frustration and can end up backfiring if you frequently lower it from the aiming position. Combined with damage effects that no longer just make your screen red but also make your head shake, trying to finish off enemies coming from various angles has now become more difficult. Or maybe I'm just a rusty ass mf that doesn't get adapted fast enough with these changes, well who knows (goddamn growing up).

As a Remaster project, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered has succeeded in carrying out its proper duties, making this iconic game series full of tragedy so that it can be enjoyed again both for gamers who were never familiar with it or who have experienced it and want to repeat the emotional experience that it brought up. Seeing this story retold in a visual format that is pleasing to the eye is a pleasure in itself.
