I've never played a Ratchet & Clank game, never heard much about the series. But when I finally picked up my PS5 in the store after waiting for ages, I saw Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart on the shelf. Of course, I wanted to get an awesome PS5 game right away to fully utilize the power of the console, and the promo material with the dimensional jumping looked really cool. So I packed it up and let myself be surprised. But I never expected that. This game is phenomenal. The locations look breathtaking, the weapons are very different and offer a variety of play styles, the dimension switching is not just a gimmick but is often really well implemented and the cutscenes made me feel like I was playing an animated film. Also, every planet is different, and not only visually. Something unexpected always happens in the levels, which makes the world seem incredibly dynamic. Be it sudden boss fights or action-packed journeys through decaying worlds, which reminded me a lot of Uncharted. If you like jump and run games and third person shooters, this is a PS5 must-have.
