Is Age Of Empires IV, after a long drought, the RTS revelation we had hoped for? Sadly, no. It is fun no question. It also looks good, even if it could have been a tad better for a AAA game. The typical rock-paper-scissors concept of units still works, all nations play nicely differently. However, the campaign is quickly forgotten. In contrast to the predecessors, in which you could really identify with the characters, here you race through the epochs, change from scene to scene and play the brothers, sisters and children of the nationalities. No hero speaks, only a single female voice guides us through the four thin campaigns. The docu-approach is really cool and damn well implemented, but I would have liked a mix of documentary before and after the missions and more characters during the missions. I'd be lying if I said I didn't have fun, though. But the game probably won't stay in my memory for long.
