when i first reviewed perfect dark, i kinda liked the gameplay despite not enjoying the objectives very much, i didn't beat it.
but now i pushed through and actually finished the game, ended up really not liking it at the end.

the obtuse mission objectives in open yet disorienting levels makes for a frustrating time in almost every mission.
this game expects you to figure things through trial and error (according to some sources, it was likely to extent time, and honestly i believe them, if you know what to do a level can take 5 minutes to finish, if you dont, 5 hours..) at some point i grew tired of it, i wasn't looking foward to playing it and just finished out of spite instead of going ''oh cool i get to shoot some enemies in that spy thriller'' it was ''oh god what is this god forsaken game gonna throw at me and force me to figure out so i can progress'', there are some fun levels where you get to shoot enemies, fight your way around and do some exploration to trigger something, but then it gets derailed and the game says ''recon the meet up'' what meet up ? where ? with what ? what do you mean game over ?
thats not to say its without fun, when it picks up, it picks up, at its brightest perfect dark is a very fun shooter with some very satisfying combat and fun exploration, at its worst (which is most of the levels) its a cryptid girlfriend that tries to hint you what she wants and then starts beating you up if you are unable to read minds.
will not play again, no excuse for this when half life 1 came two years before it, and it didn't had to rely on cheap stuff to extend gameplay
