took down the new review on this game i made and moving it here because im a pussy who feels i went too far but fuck it, mask off this is how i feel about this game. im genuinely sorry to the ppl i know and care about who do like it, please don't take this as a personal attack but this is my reasoning behind why this game personally upset me

ive let my thoughts on this game marinate for long enough and i've come to the conclusion that this is like persona 2 but instead of giving insight into the subconscious of both teens and adults with references to freudian and jungian psychiatric theories it uses its mc's trauma and repressed memories purely for shitty rpgmaker horror and shock value. shock value that serves as enough of a stark contrast to its painfully woobified dreamworld setting so that people who can't see the nuance of genuine mental health issues finally have their own peak fiction to latch on to. one of my least favourite depictions of mental health in any medium i've personally experienced, given how clear it is that the "so cute uwu" artstyle of headspace is that way in order to make the subject marketable (and it succeeded! enjoy your hecking wholesome plushies guys!!) and digestible to neurotypical people. and this is without me getting into omocat as a person.

the artistic direction is all over the place and it might take the number one spot for the worst flow in an rpg ive ever played with how inconsistent and seemingly random the overworld encounter placements are. if you want an rpg that actually looks coherent, flows well and manages to convey mental health issues in a respectful way that personally resonated with me, a neurodivergent person who has been on medication for a decade, idk honestly there's too many to count. play xenosaga or something? or persona 2 like i mentioned because much of omori's plot seems borrowed from innocent sin anyway. p2 and xenosaga aren't particularly praised for their gameplay (saga 2's battle system is secretly one of the best in the genre and people got hard filtered by it) but the writing manages to make me feel validated instead of infantilized and that's one of the key seperating factors between these games
