Marvel's Avengers as a live service game is a comically bad failure, but its single player campaign was honestly better than I expected. It's still soured by pointless gear numbers and some live service-y aspects that make the experience less focused, but the core gameplay loop of punching baddies is pretty decent. The story could have been in an MCU film--it's nothing groundbreaking, but it's an entertaining comic book story. Where the game falls flat is with its overwhelming number of skills trees, currencies, systems, stats, and items. Having a smaller, more focused single player campaign helped, but these were still distractions from the core experience.
