For the most part I loved this game. I had a few minor gripes, for instance the fact that there's no way to track collectibles both in minds or the overworld, even post-game. The combat is also pretty lackluster, and I never really felt like I got the hang of it.
But the charm and humor outshine all of that. I haven't laughed at a game this much in a long while. The first game and Rhombus of Ruin are referenced just enough to reward long-time fans without being obnoxious. The story dips into some heavy topics and handles them all very well.
All in all, this felt like I took a trip back to the era of mid-2000s platformers, and I mean that in the best way possible.
