not the slam dunk i figured this would've been coming from the first game.

the aesthetics are inspired and the moment to moment gameplay such as the combat or platforming did improve from the original (though they both leave a ton to be desired, still) but that's pretty much it?

the game feels extremely bloated across a length that isn't that long to start with. having 5 or 6 base chapters (and with them stage/setting themes) does a ton of damage but the attempts at diversifying the gameplay don't help either. bits like the pinball portions that pop up in one of the later chapters are awful.

i think this would've benefited from either more time/development for the game as a whole (this wasn't happening with EA lmao) or if that wasn't possible, some of what was here could've been trimmed with nothing of value lost.

glad i played both games but i don't think i'll return or be keeping tabs on a potential third one.

also what the fuck was with the save/checkpoint system in this? it was worse than games that had released 10+ years earlier than it. i had to completely delete my save from the console's UI when i wanted to start over since it wouldn't give a "new game" option.
