loved the spooky house setting, 60% of the puzzles or so, in addition to the usage of FMVs.

disliked (or flat out hated) almost everything else, sadly. navigation in the house is confusing with what sometimes seems like an option for you to move within a room or examine an item sending you off to another area completely with no warning. there were two or three points throughout the game where i tried to do something on the second floor and ended up back near the entrance on the first without knowing what i even did.

i know it's a relic of its time but a lot of the animation and dialogue focus when interacting with things gets old quickly too. getting interrupted every 2 moves during puzzle solving so the protagonist can be like "what should i do now?" with the cadence of me deciding on what snack to gorge myself on at 3 am in the kitchen was annoying at the start of my run and it didn't get any better. keeping along these lines, some of these puzzles are really lengthy and the animations just add up to wasted time if it's gonna take multiple attempts (as it probably will). there's this memorization based piano puzzle with 18 steps that i was PRAYING to not mess up because of the repetition of animations involved.

i'm glad to have played this as it was a bit of a missing spot in my played titles in terms of personal interests/affinity but i don't see myself returning. i don't have a ton of hopes for it but i hope The 11th Hour at least improves a little bit.
