This game gave me everything I wanted out of a modem 2D Mario Game. Obviously we ALL were burnt out when it came to NEW Super Mario Bros, but the success of those games in terms of sales made me question if Nintendo would ever deviate from that formula. Well let’s thank the heavens they did, because this game reminded me of why 2D mario can be innovative and magical even though it’s a side scrolling short game. Games like these are necessary to show that developers don’t need to create open world 100+ hour experiences to deliver one of the best games of the year. This is up there with Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World as the trinity of 2D mario games.
