Abuse resembles a side-scrolling platform game. The game is marked for its unusual control scheme: The keyboard is used to move Nick, while the mouse is used for aiming the weapons. The basic gameplay consists of fighting various enemies (mostly the various forms of mutants, who prefer to attack in huge swarms) and solving some simple puzzles, most involving switches.

A reminder that it was called 'Doom in 2D,' it's freeware, and I have to play it again.
An excellent MS-DOS game where platforming and shooting go hand in hand. The enemy design is interesting: the variety of enemy units isn't high, but given the game's brevity it's more than good. The placement of both creatures and obtainable resources (also in terms of distribution and quantity of power-ups) allows for a challenging yet not brutal experience, despite often being discouraged by frequent deaths in the first 20-30 minutes. The jet boots and the ability to aim with the mouse for shooting play an important role in this.
I can't shake off the feeling that the character design is borrowed from Predator and Alien.
