A remake of Ace Combat 2

Ace Combat: Assault Horizon Legacy is a remake of Ace Combat 2. It is a flight-sim/arcade fighter combat action game. The game is typically played in a third person, behind the aircraft, or first person, inside the cockpit view. It features series mainstays such as numerous selectable aircraft and the ability to purchase parts and weapons to customize the fighters. Where Assault Horizon Legacy sets itself apart from current console versions of Assault Horizon in that the gameplay is tipped more in favour of the arcade-style action of the early games in the series rather than focusing on flight-sim characteristics. Also different from the console versions of Assault Horizon is that this entry takes place in the fictional universe of the older games in the series, rather than in real-world locations.

Deceptive naming aside, this had no right being as good as it was. Music courtesy of Go Shiina really elevated this game to heights (ha) that it wouldn't have reached otherwise.

And with that, Access Games achieves a better track record at making Ace Combat games than Project Aces themselves.

P.S. I find it somewhat of a disgrace that there are only two other reviewers for what is easily a top 10 3DS game. (I have it at 2nd place.)

While I haven't played any ace combat starting with 5 yet, it's interesting to see how this reformatted the series' gameplay into an arcadier, more spectacle based experience

Even with the performance issues on the original model 3ds, even with it being a bit too easy on normal with the crossover ships and the Y button commands (both toggleable though) trivialiazing the game a good amount,
it's doing those as a trade off for being a game that's generally snappy, always satisfying and epic, for the lack of a better word. The missions last long enough for you to actually feel like you did something but don't pad themselves, the visuals are great especially with the 3d on, and while dpad yaw is death the simplified control scheme is perfectly good (though I wish I could lower the sensitivity a bit). This also has some really convenient options to replay missions and some side content I didn't check out yet

In general it's just a good time you know? While 3 has the more interesting and isolating aesthetic and plot, this is a ball. Consistently fun and I really really missed the 3d going from this to 3

This was my first Ace Combat game and now I am stuck as a fan forever
