Stellar art direction. (I'm also a big fan of the HUD) Angel's Gear had me hooked from the intro.
The pacing is slower than I'm used to for the genre, feeling like a hybridization of Resident Evil and Metroid.
After finally getting a solid handle on the mechanics by the second boss I found myself very much enjoying the combat, however the experience in the overworld was far more frustrating. Enemies don't respawn, which does allow for them to be threatening, but it also encourages the player to run back to a save station instead of press onwards.
If I hadn't spent so much time either reclearing rooms after death or slowly save-scumming, I'd probably have finished closer to the 2hr mark.
As it stands you'll need patience and jank tolerance to get the most out of this compelling action adventure.
