This is actually pretty cool. Zombie Frank is surprisingly fun to control (though I was spoiled by playing Capcom Heroes mode first). I do like that the dodge button also works as an attack so you can more easily move through crowds.

I also liked that all the collectibles worked directly to power you up.

It just kind of sucks that this exists as the true ending of the game and is DLC. Like this is basically what overtime mode was in the original game. Luckily I didn't have to pay extra for it as I have the PS4 version with it included, but it still sucks as a concept.

Also the time mechanic is back which apparently people missed, so there you go.

Frank Rising seems like it could be a fun idea. A guy who gets infected with some force that gives them super powers? I know this is a fun concept because Prototype is fun, but this is not fun because its slapped onto Dead Rising's gameplay and not updated to work at all. Combat feels so fucking terrible as zombie Frank.

The main game was a let down and was buggy, but still had a certain kind of charm. This was a let down, buggy and lost any charm that was left from the main game. This was unnecessary and really put the nail in the coffin for this series for the foreseeable future.

I'd say this is the most bizarre Dead Rising content, but Chop Till You Drop's Gagaga trailer still beats it, so it's nowhere near as bizarre or cursed as I expected.

Playing as a super-powered zombie Frank is bizarre, and I couldn't help but think about sharks being jumped over, or how this is the Saints Row 4 of the Dead Rising series. However, it's just fucking fun. Going around getting collectibles and completing trials to get better base stats and improved zombie powers was pretty fun, as is tearing shit up when you're maxed. All of this is done extremely fast (ideally) as the time limit returns, giving you an hour and a half to do everything. And the only thing that carry over are collectibles and their buffs, so you have to manage to do all challenges efficiently to not waste time. Also, the timer doesn't reset if you die, punishing failure greatly.

My first playthrough, I got a bit over halfway through when the timer ran out, but on my second try I had about 20 minutes leftover. It's not the hardest time limit in the series, but I would be surprised by anyone completing 100% on the first blind try. Not impossible, but not the easiest thing to do, it's a surprisingly nicely balanced timer in my opinion, considering how ultra lax 3's was.

Thankfully, since this DLC is so short, it doesn't overstay its welcome and has a good sense of progression as you buff up through its short run, but I wouldn't have minded a little more to it. The story is absurd but entertaining and Frank's still out of character, but it's all consistent with the base game so whatever. Music is basically the same, too. So those two weak spots are still the same. Consistent though.

There were some annoying bugs, particularly grapples failing against human enemies a few times, which got me killed as grapples are your only way to heal in this DLC, but nothing much else. Very nice to see after how many bugs I experienced during Capcom Heroes.

So yeah, a very fun but bizarre DLC that could've just little bit longer for me. Fitting as an epilogue to the very fun but bizarre DR4, anyway. Simultaneously made me think "why is this called Dead Rising anymore" and "ok this shit's fun anyway".

Don't you love a game where overtime mode is DLC that half heartedly tries to bring back the time aspect from the previous games.
