Hearthlands is a medieval/fantasy city-building real time strategy game in which you take a role of a king in a procedurally generated world. You can not control your subjects directly; instead you focus on city-building, resource management, diplomacy, heroes, magic and other things a typical king deals with on a daily basis.

Hearthlands is a perfectly competent little city builder that feels a lot like Caesar. It's nothing especially groundbreaking, and frankly it's not even particularly interesting if you're a veteran of the genre.

But it's cheap, very lightweight and runs very quickly. The calculations are simplistic and so are the supply chains. It's pretty quick and easy to play. It's a game that feels like it should've been released in 1999. I don't mean that to be an insult. It would've been an exceptional game in 1999. And it's still a good one in 2022. It's just not a mustplay in this day and age.

But if you can find it on the cheaper end of things and you're a bit bored. There's much worse ways to blow a couple week nights than by playing a perfectly competent and snappy little city builder that feels like it came from yesteryear
