Japanese Rail Sim: Journey to Kyoto is a full motion video train simulator. Driving from Kyoto into the mountainside and back. You need to be on schedule and are requiered to precicely stop the train at stations. You get evaluated by stoping as close to the hold line as possible (< 50 cm) and being neither to early, nor to late (<3 seconds). You can get panalized, which reduces your time evaluation. For example driving to fast, or breaking to hard. The evaluation earns you medals, unlocking information for points of interest within walking distance near the stations you are driving to. All of them are pictured and the locations are marked on a simple map.

A literally perfect game. I wanted to drive a train and this game offered me the ability to drive a train. There is literally nothing to complain about so therefore 10/10.

Excellent train driving game for relaxed gaming, I know not everyone is a fan of the use of pre-recorded video but I think it has its own charm. It reminds me of those laserdisc driving games I played in the 90s.

Powerful shit; the fmv footage in the backround; the mid render of the train controls; the way the game simulates slowing down by just slowing down the 30fps footage; looking at the blurred faces of the people waiting at the station at five frames a second; the way playing this just calms me down immediatly; there are no stakes, not even a game world, just you and a long 1080p video with chill vibes; it's amazing; how did this series start on the 3DS tho?
