Lennus II: Fuuin no Shito

released on Jul 26, 1996

The second game in the Lennus / Paladin's Quest series. The games development was very troubled and took four years instead of the planned two. Upon release it sold very poorly, even after being promoted through Nintendo Power. This caused the plans for Lennus III to be shelved. The magic system have been expanded to eight spirits representing the elements Fire, Light, Wind, Gold, Earth, Sky, Water and Void. Which can be combined or used separately for a total of 36 spells. Instead of building up a spirit skill rating by using the spells relating to the spirit, in Lennus II you power up the spirits by defeating monsters and earning spirit-specific experience points in addition to the normal experience points. A Nintendo Power version of the game was released in 1997.

Game Review - originally written by Spinner 8

I couldn’t figure out how to get out of the first little area (though granted, I didn’t dwell on it), so I checked out a GameFAQs review for Lennus II. This guy (who obviously didn’t know Japanese) blasted the game for having no story, sub-NES-quality graphics, the worst music he’s ever heard, and gameplay that was eclipsed by that in Final Fantasy II and III. What the fuck game was he playing? See kids, this is why [redacted] shouldn’t be allowed to play Squaresoft games.

Maybe he was playing the first Lennus, which was released here as Paladin’s Quest and, admittedly, is all of those above things. Lennus II kicks things up by several notches, but is essentially the same Lufia/Phantasy Star-esque gameplay. But I mean, look at those graphics! They totally rock. GameFAQs is stupid.

If you are not sure about playing this game because Paladin's Quest was garbage, don't worry, this game is actually good
