Little Nightmares is a puzzle-platform horror adventure game developed by Tarsier Studios and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment. Set in a mysterious world, Little Nightmares follows the journey of Six, a hungry little girl who must escape the Maw, an iron vessel inhabited by monstrous, twisted beings. The Secrets of the Maw DLC introduces three new chapters: The Depths, The Hideaway, and The Residence.

After playing the base game I was incredibly excited when I learned there were 3 full DLC chapters. But when I actually played Secret of the Maw I was super disappointed. The idea of there being another kid somewhere in the maw besides Syx and learning more about it was super intriguing in theory, but they didn't really do anything interesting with it and the ending just felt like cheap shock value. Plus I ran into several bugs and glitches throughout my playthrough that I didn't encounter in the base game which certainly didn't help matters.

Oh hell naw they turned Little Nightmares into Pikmin...

In terms of gameplay, this was a great step in the right direction. The first chapter is rather mediocre but the second and third are excellent and big upgrades in terms of puzzles and platforming from the base game. While Little Nightmares coasts on atmosphere, Secrets of the Maw trades memorable villains (most villains are briefly re-used from base LN, though generally in a less succesful fashion than their appearances in the base game) for genuinely engaging gameplay, some decently complex puzzles and rewarding progression with some genuine scares. The base game never really unsettled me because it was so brightly lit and blatantly linear (half the rooms could be cleared by simply running quickly from left to right, maybe some climbing thrown in. They were also very obviously and repeatedly divided up into different "sub-levels" where enemies just give up chasing despite being right behind you because you made it to the next "level"), but the more restrained use of horror actually made the game more creepy to me, because the scares were so much more unexpected (e.g. turning my flashlight on in a dark room and suddenly being face-to-face with the Blind Man). Arguably only the first chapter only misses the mark in this regard, where the "scares" are obvious and also extremely back-loaded, showing up predominantly in the final 20-ish minutes as you get constantly chased by the old person in the sewers.

All in all, if the sequels take the iconography and penchant for creating iconic monsters and locations from the base game and the gameplay from the DLC, they will easily be modern classics in my eyes.

This was decent, the last level felt like a joke in terms of logic.

overall, a downgrade from the base game but still objectively fun and good. just way clunkier with puzzles that varied from amazing to confusing and dreadful.

also i dont understand why the dlc was so INSANELY DARK compared to the base game. even if it was for atmospheric purposes, it genuinely bordered on unplayable at times. i had to turn the game brightness all the way up, turn my monitor brightness up, and make my room dark. like. that actively made my play experience worse lol

pt. 1 was the strongest imo as it had a clear and concise theme, enemy, and mechanic. felt like a continuation of the base game, but this time with water lol. a bit clunky at times but i could overlook it.

pt. 2 was definitely the most interesting in theory, and i loved the emphasis on the little sack friends. gameplay wise this part was abysmal and beyond clunky though. so unfun to play.

pt. 3 was also pretty strong, and stylistically the strongest. love the "combat" mechanic, as it added a different sense of fear/ challenge to the overall game. loved the ending as well, as morbid as that was.

Esta vez encarnaremos a un niño que se encuentra perdido en el mismo lugar que la niña en el juego principal. Este DLC es igual de entretenido que el contenido principal y de alguna manera, cierra un poco la historia de lo que pasó durante el escape de la niña.
Realmente es muy bueno, y al terminarlo sinceramente, me dejó sensaciones encontradas (no por malo, sino porque la historia juega con tus emociones, malditos! jaja). No digo más, así no spoileo nada.

More of the same as the base game but in a good way. Same creepy atmosphere and fun gameplay and a bit more lore to expand on the original story. Very good.
