Eu te amo, Mega Man 7, eu te amo.

This game is massively underrated. I think it looks and sounds great, and the gameplay is mostly the same for classic Mega Man standards but a lot more robust thanks to the newer hardware. Some small things like the progress of the robot master stages being cut in two parts, the item shop, unlockable upgrades and secrets inside stages really help this game improve on what was already consolidated by its predecessors. The biggest problem with this game is that some stages or bossfights are a little too difficult (at least compared to the rest of the game), the most notable example being the incredibely challenging final boss, which I actually love for how you can beat it buster-only, without taking damage and without SLIDING (and trust me it's not as impossible as it sounds.) I've never actually done it but I'm close! And it's mad fun. The whole game is, too. Very solid title.

Basically my critique of Mega Man 7 can be summed up as "Game Good, Castle Bad." Which at this point makes me sound like a broken record.

Its art style is refreshing, the bosses are fun and memorable. I liked the abilities even if they are just reskins at this point. The movement is absolutely more sluggish and slow paced but it didn't detract from the fun. That last boss sucks and I am happy Mega Man burned the castle to the ground. Now if only he had taken that kill shot.

Probably doesn't deserve its black sheep status it's developed over the years—I actually quite like the way it looks, and it's got a pretty solid set of robot masters for a later game in the series—but still not particularly great.

Mega Man 7 shines most with its style. The cartoon look the classic games always had carries over perfectly and it’s a shame no other mainline games used this style. On the other hand the gameplay feels very fractured between the great stages and stinker bosses. They either get neutered by their weakness or are just a pain to fight, especially the castle bosses and final boss. But even though there’s room for improvement, you gotta commend the team for making this in 3 months like that’s super impressive.

I remember thinking this one was pretty meh as a kid, but time has definitely changed things for me as I had a great time playing through this again. Also has one of my favorite stages / music tracks of any Mega Man game: The spooky Ghosts-'n-Goblins-inspired Shade Man stage.

Still cannot beat that final Wily form without wasting a ton of E-tanks, though...
