This port gets a bum rap but it's arguably the Genesis' smoothest racer by a longshot. The forced splitscreen does kinda suck, but there's no universe where they could've made a half-authentic port of the arcade's visuals anyway - so why not double-down on the competitive gimmick? (Though I guess by that logic, if they could get the game looking and running this well with splitscreen, they could've made something visually stronger for a 1P display too. Idk lmao who knows how they're programming this and how much frontend is taken from the scrolling logic.)

Anyway, fun racer! It's the same great 'jump in and drive' formula as the first Outrun with more branching paths, more cars with different specs and gear types, and a banger soundtrack - not just cooler compositionally than Outrun MD, but twice as large of a selection. The slight tweening in the steering controls from Outrun MD are basically phased out for sharper, more immediate turns - a fantastic change imo. Don't let the 'bad port' criticisms dissuade you - take it as its own thing instead of a substitute to the arcade version.

And on that note, we gotta demand Sega to port that arcade version. Genuinely one of the most gorgeous racers I've ever seen.
