beautiful game. peak 2.5d. i thought it was impossibly hard until i realized there was a shield button. my whole first run (i made it to the final boss and ran out of continues) i didn't use it at all. am i a prodigy? no, i am an idiot.

google lens translates the attack that turns people into allies as "fellow" which i just wanted to share with y'all

Maybe the breeziest, briskest boss rush game I’ve played, moving you from setpiece to setpiece in seconds. Fight out of giant frog’s innards into a minecart section into a battle with some screen-filling monstrosity, then get teleported to another realm to break the curse the last boss just placed on you. Awesome stuff.

It’s a little too easy to get complacent thanks to the combination of respawning right where you died (feels like the game is on Free Play mode) and your shield move. The move is actually pretty cool, giving you a second of invincibility and a bit of extra air time, but it can make the strategies for bosses blur together: whether you fighting a Kitsune or Mad Inventor, just activate your shield when you're about to be hit, and hammer on attack every other second.

Even so, fighting through hordes of demons on a moonlit pagoda to stop the birth of a new god will never not be cool.

A solid boss rush thing that is a wonderful rollercoaster of eerie youkai spectacle. Very impressive how often it throws out the rulebook and drags the player kicking and screaming through creative 2.5d locales. Never a dull moment in this thing! Also a reminder that I've still yet to play Alien Soldier.......

It's alright! The lock-on is more frustrating than it is helpful, and the combat isn't all there. The aesthetics rock though, so big bonus points for that!
