Star Wars: Rebel Assault II - The Hidden Empire

released on Nov 01, 1995

Star Wars Rebel Assault II: The Hidden Empire is the sequel to the Star Wars: Rebel Assault. This time however, the story is not related to the original movies. The story opens in the vicinity of the Dreighton Nebula, where Rookie One is investigating disappearances of Rebel spacecraft near Dreighton, a region rich with mythology about vanishing spacecraft. Rookie One responds to a distress call coming from a ship in the nebula. Once there, he discovers an Imperial presence. As the story progresses, it becomes clear that the Empire is somehow responsible for at least some of the more recent disappearances.

I will always remember this game as the one with a cheat code that replaces the subtitles with MST3K-style riffing on the cutscenes. At times, they deserve it, but overall RA2 is a competent FMV game much superior to its predecessor. It's also one of the few older Star Wars games to seriously immerse me in the cockpit of a starfighter that wasn't named X-Wing or TIE Fighter.

A fun on-rails shooter when it stays in the shooting levels. The vehicle levels, however, are almost fully broken and really bring the quality down. There's an impressive amount of production quality in the FMV and overall it's fun (on Easy), but you'll struggle to keep a smile on your face as the Millennium Falcon slams into the side of a cave for no reason for the hundredth time.

Por que choras netflix?
MUITO BEM FEITO PRA SUA EPOCA, o salto de qualidade pro anterior é bem grande mas sofre do mesmo problema com controles que envelheceram mal.

Clássico!

The graphical style really made you feel like you were playing the movie. Blew my mind when I was a kid. I don't think I ever got past the part where you have to fly the Falcon through the tunnels because it is ridiculously hard (and only the third area!). but I liked what I was able to play. I should go back to it again.

Seems like LucasArts didn't learn their lesson

This game is actually an improvement over the first, but not by much! It actually starts off fun, the rail shooter sections are a little wonky but pretty fun, and the cheesy visuals and audio is nice, there's actually checkpoints in between chapters, you feel like you have a fair amount of health.

It's all good, then you hit that 3rd level, and you realize they didn't fix the game. 3rd level is similar to the first game where it just controls like actual shit, and you just straight up cannot see wtf you're supposed to dodge.

After about 20 tries, I decided I'm done. They apparently didn't realize their faults and just did the same thing again, sad! Could've been an actually fun game if they didn't put in the same shit, as the first two levels were very promising.

My older brother and I must have died a hundred times on the "The Mining Tunnels" Millennium Falcon level.

Great memory but an absolute nightmare of gameplay — felt like trying to steer a warped frisbee piloted by Chewbacca drunk on Juma Juice.
