I’ll be real, I only bought this game because it included a copy of Colin McRae Rally 04, the best rally driving game ever made. This game’s pretty good too.

My favorite of the original Race Driver trilogy. The story for this game bends and twists you through a racing career as you start out struggling to stay financially solvent in the Formula Ford series and slowly advancing your way up the ranks to becoming a world-class driver. On the way, the story has you interacting with a wide variety of characters who you'll bump heads (and bumpers) with on the path to glory.

All of this is backed by an incredibly solid racing engine with TOCA's trademark diversity of discipline. You'll go from racing muscle cars around Leguna Seca to drifting hatchbacks around an ice track and finishing with a one-make race of Ford GT concepts, among literally dozens of other examples. Fantastic, distilled 6th gen racing with a story focus uncommon to the genre.

Best of the three TOCA titles on the PS2 in my optinion. Challenging game with loads and loads of options both in arcade and career mode. Speaking of the latter, the cut scenes give the game a certain charme, all cheesiness considered.

I felt the many difficulty spikes even in this 5th or 6th runthrough. Truly an amazing nostalgia driven experience, love the game and everybody who loves it as much as I do.

codemasters peaked here
had that floaty car physics that somehow made you feel in control, would love to play it more if the force feedback suddenly didn't fuck up by itself after turning the system off and on after a night session in the ps2 version, and pc version sadly has no support for wheels (and there is literally zero information about this online so i would love to eat those words by a kind stranger in the comment section)
