A port of Wario Land II

What kind of no-good ruffians would break into my castle and steal my treasures?! It's that rotten Captain Syrup and that Black Sugar Gang! I'm looking out for bad guys and scavenging for coins as I track down my treasures. If I don't get them all the first time, that's OK. I can go back again and again until I find them all. Captain Syrup doesn't stand a chance against me!

I appreciate that this game wanted to distance itself from the other games, but I don't like it nearly as much as 1 and (especially) 4

First Wario Land sequel and it already tries something new and original (only then to revamp it and make it more ambitious with Wario Land 3).
I really loved the story-telling and level structure of this, never felt cryptic. All stages oozes of charm so much.

the alarm clock lives in my nightmares
you can't skip the intro it's like 5 real minutes long

Such a leap over Wario Land 1. The series finds its identity aesthetically and mechanically. The way power ups work here, where hazards actually turn Wario into different forms, all of which are needed to progress through levels, is such a brilliant twist on platformer logic. And such a great way to differentiate this from Mario. You can't die, the coins actually matter this time, hazards are power-ups. It's sick. It's the body horror platformer. Long live the new Wario flesh.

i'm actually kinda in shock at how much better this was compared to the first wario land? not gonna 100% it just yet but i definitely want to come back to this someday for sure
