Words With Friends

released on Jul 01, 2009

Words with Friends is a multi-player word game. Players take turns building words crossword puzzle style in a manner similar to the classic board game Scrabble. (The rules of the two games are similar, but Words with Friends is not officially associated with the Scrabble brand.) Up to 30 games can be played simultaneously using push notifications to alert players when it is their turn. Players may look up friends either by username or through Facebook, or be randomly assigned an opponent through "Smart Match". Players can also find potential opponents using Community Match.

Once I discovered the word “QI”, it was all over

Solid word play with friends on Facebook Messenger, the surprise when you pull out your phone and your competitor just played a crazy word netting them hundreds of points is very memorable.

Where I learned for the first time that your ability to win a game of scrabble has nothing to do with a love for the English language and a curiosity for fun and obscure words, and everything to do with which same five make-believe fuckin q and x words you can put on triple spaces before your opponent does. Reader, I wept tears

Gare’s “win a single game without goddam using the word qi” challenge. Impossible!

The best game Zynga ever made, and maybe the only good one.

Just a lesser version of Scrabble, but if you play with the right person it can be fun.

5.9/10

Was decent until they added endless ads
