Zero Divide 2: The Secret Wish is a sequel to the robot fighting game Zero Divide. The game features higher resolution graphics and more detailed character models. It adds two new robots, the nurse-like Pixel and the crab-like Cancer, along with a few new bosses and hidden characters. It also adds various new arena types of different shapes (the original game only had standard square arenas), including completely walled-in ones, as well as arenas with low barriers that the opponent can be juggled over to lead to a ring out. Rounds are now considerably shorter, and the robot's armor easier to knock off.

Zero Divide 2: The Secret Wish is the second game in the Zero Divide series, and my is it an improvement to its predecessor!

The first thing you'll notice is how smooth the game is now in comparison to the first game. Full 60 FPS and the animations are much less choppy and because of this the game feels so much better to control. It still plays like Virtua Fighter despite Tekken being the big dog at this point in 97, but you can still spot some influences here and there with a few of the moves. You can also actually get off the damn ground in a quick manner consistently in this game, which was a major problem in the first.

The cast includes two new fighters and new boss characters, they're a mixed bag imo. Cancer is cool by default because non-humanoid fighters are always welcome and it's part of the reason I give this series so much appreciation since it included a scorpion person(Tau), dinosaur dragon(Draco) and a tentacled.....drill monster thing(Nereid) in its roster in the original game. Pixel though is some nurse robot who is honestly kinda whatever, IO is far cooler. Eve and Nox though are flat out boring compared to XTAL and Zulu from the original. Nox looks like a dork and Eve is just Dural from VF with a wig on, a big step down from the crow-lizard looking guy and the Andross Brain from Star Fox 64.

The presentation took a bit of a hit from the first game, the cast has changed a bit in their appearance in some ways for the better and some for worse, and the stages don't have quite as much going on as they did in the original. Nereid though has took a massive blow in this game, he looks absolutely atrocious compared to how cool he was in the first and that hurts a lot for me because he was my favorite. The music also is now a bit more subdued compared to the first game, it doesn't quite try to be as uplifting and hype as the original game's ost which kinda sucks. Not that it's bad at all, it's still great just not a grand slam homer like it was before.

Overall this game is definitely much better than the first, and I would even go as far to say it's......good? A hidden gem perhaps?

If you had kept Nereid the same, made the bosses not so boring and kept the original tone of the music from the first game you'd potentially have one of my favorite fighters from this generation of consoles. Check it out for sure if you like early 3D fighters.
