Loved this dark fairytale game. A great blend of light and dark, cozy children’s storybook ideas mixed with dark and occasionally downright disturbing ideas. Fun use of Wonderland style shrinking of the main characters to enter a fantastic world that could maybe be right before our eyes or just under a leaf in your garden. A particularly memorable ‘boss fight’ where you confront an old crone’s disembodied head was a big highlight.

gold coated crap.. in the sense.. that the vibe and aesthetic is some of the best I've seen in a while (the gold) but the game is boring walk simulator with lack lustre puzzles (the crap) i ended up watching YouTube while playing it was that bad.. adore the vibe and aesthetic

What is this... at first it may seem like a slow, boring game, and etc. But after 1hr and a half. Out of nowhere it starts to rain down on interesting character fuck designs, engaging level design, and the ever-expanding Lore... a great surprise. Mention of the camera director: "Mikael Lindhe", what impeccable work... This game did not have the attention it deserved.

One of the most surprising games I've ever played. When I started I was confused with all the hype, it seemed like a childish game making me play hide and seek with gnomes. And then it kept surprising me at every turn with unexpected twists. I love how the story is told like a fairy tale with a narrator instead of dialogue and with actual fairy tale books you can read explaining its super interesting norse mythology and folklore. I love how dark and scary it gets. After the joyous first part it starts getting a bit like little nightmares and it just keeps getting crazier, soon you're dealing with dead babies, murder, zombies, your character (A CHILD!) covered in blood in a surrealistic nightmare, I was GAGGED. The mechanics are very simple and some of the boss fights can get a bit frustrating (especially the last one) but other than that the game is absolutely gorgeous, with an amazing story, beautiful soundtrack and I can totally understand what all the hype was about

Gorgeous atmosphere and doesn't overstay its welcome. I would never want to exist in a Nordic children's book.

Little Nightmares de Hacendado.

Bramble is a gem. A simple game like Inside or Little Nighmares, but with a mithycal story so different that made me chills. With a lot of horror vibes and fantasy, its a great surprise on gamepass.

Similar to Little Nightmares or Inside but with a bit more going on and a bit more dimension in the level design. There's a surprising amount of variety packed in here from the environments to the gameplay mechanics, but it doesn't outstay its welcome. Great use of folklore, beautiful art direction, effectively creepy, and multiple creative boss fights. There's a lot to recommend and not much that holds it back other than your character occasionally refusing to grab onto whatever ledge or surface you're meant to jump to, and dying in this type of game always means tediously renavigating the same environment you already went through with all of its luster removed on the second trip.

Cute and unsettling. Loved it.

Incredible storytelling, atmosphere, and visuals. It's extremely dark, but it's not unwarranted. Cautionary tales are often cruel, especially towards the children they're meant to warn. As a fan of urban legends, I loved this game. It's not often we get one like it. However, I do think it lacked somewhat in the gameplay. All the mechanics are quite simple, making it pretty easy to play, but at times, it became almost boring? Though I think the story and score is enough to keep your attention. I don't know that I would recommend it to someone, but I enjoyed playing it.

This was a pleasant surprise for me, I really enjoyed it, even though it’s really, really dark with an extremely heavy atmosphere. Let me warn you, it’s quite gory and grim, with depictions of suicide and extreme violence, so don’t let the cute children mislead you, this is recommended only for mature gamers!

The graphics are amazing, no complaints there, and the sound effects and music were great, too, especially those beautiful songs we can hear occasionally. As for the plot, it’s nothing special, we’ve seen it a few times (two siblings against the horrors of the world, if you played games like Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons, Röki or A Plague Tale, you kind of know what to expect), but the Nordic folklore behind it is very interesting, at least it was for me. Unfortunately, I found the controls a bit clunky, I even experienced some small input lags here and there, and the camera angles are downright terrible in some cases. Sometimes I simply couldn’t see where I was supposed to go, and I walked into certain death…

All in all, a short but powerful and memorable title, that doesn’t do anything unique and new, but it’s still enjoyable if you like creepy action-adventures with a few puzzles thrown in. Give it a try.

As a fan of Limbo I am happy to play this one. Artistically it is very beautiful with a nice soundtrack - the landscapes and the tiny gnome houses are very nice to look at.

The game soon gets gory and scary, just like Limbo. The style of the game is pretty similar - even the story is.
Story-wise it's not memorable; other games and stories have done the same but it's a short game and there's nothing to lose in playing it.

I'll give it 3.5 stars, especially because of the artwork.
In terms of game-play, it could have been so much better but since it's an indie game and a relatively new company, I won't be too hard on it.

This one hit me totally out of left field. What started as a cute-looking little fairytaleish "brother searching for his sister" plot, turns out to be one of the most atmospheric and intriguing games I played in recent years.

The tension is tight; there is a lot of gore and disturbing images; a beautifully designed world with a huge amount of nice little and scary details, packed in a coat of Norse fables.

But what impresses me the most are the boss fights. It's not just the design of the actual boss, but it's its staging. The camera work, juggling with depth of field, and the brilliant use of exposure result in a stunning audiovisual experience.

I highly recommend to check this one out, especially because it's part of the microsoft game pass (as of 04/26/2024), so its more or less free to play if you have a subscription.

“Bramble: The Mountain King” is an enchanting journey through a dark and mystical Nordic fairy-tale world. With its dynamic camera style that shifts from 2D to 3D, the game draws you into its beautifully crafted environments, filled with rich folklore and mythological creatures. The sound design is exceptional, accentuating the compelling narrative and the emotional depth of Olle’s quest. Despite some technical imperfections, the game’s stunning visuals, atmospheric storytelling, and memorable sequences make it a standout title well worth experiencing. It’s a testament to the power of indie games to deliver unique and immersive experiences that resonate with players long after the journey ends.

Très beau mais un peu facile

Over the millennia of its development, humanity has never been able to found a single nation. Who knows, maybe the Babylonian Pandemonium actually played an important role in this, but what definitely cannot be denied is the constant development of society. Over these centuries, different peoples have been able to form unique and unusual cultures that coexist well with each other. The abundance of folk legends and tales, special stylistics, traditions and the transfer of knowledge from generation to generation to this day excite the imagination of casual listeners and surprise with an unusual look at everyday phenomena. Bramble: The Mountain King is an excellent successor to the legacy of the harsh and cruel Scandinavian culture, which is not at all going to entertain its viewer. Since ancient times, the Normans have fought for survival in hostile conditions, proven their superiority on the battlefield and learned about the world through the tenacity of the human spirit. Their epics are saturated with horror, blood, and suffering, but still feel like life-affirming stories. Although Bramble won’t tell us about the harsh life of the Vikings, we can instead immerse ourselves in the gloomy aesthetics of the northern forests, where hundreds of hungry creatures wait in the dark.

Olle and Lillimore's relationship was a great example of how close people should care for each other. These two beautiful angels were together everywhere and laughed fervently. Young Olle doted on his sister and always tried to be there, helping her in various matters. Lillimore, on the contrary, had a rebel spirit and was constantly looking for sources of new experiences, despite danger and injury. Being an older sister, she tried to take care of her younger brother, but was constantly distracted by various activities. One night, when the mother read the fairy tale and put her children to bed, Lillimore again conceived a prank - the thought of a night walk in the forest suddenly came to her mind and she could not resist it. Having tied a rope from the sheets, she deftly slipped out of the window and headed straight into the forest thicket. Olle could not sleep and was tormented by nightmares, constantly turning over in his memory the terrible legends that his mother told him before bed. When he woke up, he wanted to cuddle up to his sister, but found that her bed was empty. The boy was not taken aback and only smiled slyly - he knew his sister too well to immediately start worrying about her. After some time, the brother and sister were able to find each other in the night forest and rustled the leaves for a long time on the thoughtful edges. At one point, a secret path opened up among the trees and they discovered a magical oak forest full of unusual creatures. Jumping on huge mushrooms and playing with gnomes, the children did not notice how dusk was gathering over their heads, and terrible creatures were sticking their heads out of various holes. Very soon this childish carelessness will backfire on the playful children, and young Olla will have to take on the difficult burden of responsibility for his missing sister. Now the boy needs to track down the troll who kidnapped Lillemore and prevent a terrible tragedy.

Before us is a third-person quest, where we will take control of a boy named Olle, who must save his sister from the clutches of evil forces. The local forests are full of dangers, and the growling of hungry creatures can be heard everywhere. The gameplay consists of solving puzzles and fighting opponents. Olle is just a child, so he won’t be able to resist some enemies, which means we’ll have to master stealth in rough terrain. Fallen trees, stones and ruins of houses will provide excellent shelter for us, but it is worth remembering that many creatures cannot be stopped by such obstacles. The gameplay is full of action and spectacular scenes that literally won’t let a relaxed player breathe. We will quickly be forced to switch into tense mode, constantly confronted with various dangers and traps.

Bramble's visuals can be called bewitching and magical. It combines sunny landscapes with clear rivers and flowering fields, and abandoned burial sites with mountains of corpses. Scandinavian culture, at first glance, seems inhumane and cruel, but it is worth remembering that the main motive of such legends is the harsh force of nature, which is indifferent to everyone around. Yes, the local forests are teeming with monsters, and the ancient gods send curses, but it was precisely these tests, according to the Normans, that were supposed to educate people into warriors who could not be broken by ordinary weapons. Bramble perfectly demonstrates the stage of growing up of a child, through overcoming dangers and confronting opponents. On the one hand, Olle will be able to clearly see that not all monsters are evil, and on the other hand, he will feel the bestial cruelty in himself, which pushed the local creatures to commit atrocities. The final touches to the brutal story are complemented by beautiful soundtracks in which Scandinavian chants excite the heart and instill a sense of beauty in the soul.

Bramble: The Mountain King is a brutal stealth action game where we come face to face with creatures from Scandinavian folklore. Detailed graphics and particularly brutal scenes instantly put you in a serious mood, and Olle’s story evokes empathy and a desire to help him. The boy does not try to kill or maim local creatures of his own free will, and the terrible actions that fate pushed him to were done only out of self-defense. If you are a big fan of Scandinavian folklore and are accustomed to its bloody brutality, then I am sure that the story of Olle and Lillemor will definitely resonate in your heart. Here you can admire the beautiful scenery and test your strength by watching brutal scenes.

Despite the content warning before starting the game, I was not quite ready for this to go to some dark, DARK places.

Gameplay wise; you know what you're going to get if you've played the likes of Inside and Little Nightmares, although there is a little more jank here that becomes really noticeable once you reach the end of the game.

Where the game shines is in its world, with its focus on Scandinavian folklore making it as fascinating as it is creepy.

Kinda a little nightmares set into Norse folklore. Very creepy and nice. The only downside is the very last part of the game with the latest bossfights that last a little bit too long of what they should have and make you realize how clunky the protagonist moves

A hidden gem, if you ask me.
Bramble: The Mountain King is a fairytale of sorts that manages to do something that I find quite rare in these dark retellings: it feels earnest. Don't get me wrong: this is a very, VERY dark game (and I do recommend minding its content warnings, specially regarding child abuse), but it doesn't feel "edgy". It doesn't feel written by a 14-year-old who still equates violence with adulthood. It doesn't feel like a cheap Winnie-The-Pooh-is-public-domain-now boring slasher. Bramble actually manages to make you feel like when you were a kid and you found yourself reading one of those non-neutered, popular Grimms' Tales for the first time and you could barely peek at the most hideous illustration of an ogre you've ever seen in your entire short life. The fact that the protagonists are sweet, genuinely innocent kids and that there's no short amount of childish shenanigans enhances the horror by juxtaposition when it arrives. And oh boy, it does arrive.

All and all, Bramble has a great atmosphere, score and gameplay; which is simple and not always super responsive, but manages to offer the right amount of challenge, requiring some attention to detail.
I will say this, though: I've seen this game being described as "Limbo-like", and while this isn't a bad definition beware the fact this game isn't nearly as polished as Limbo. There are definitely a lot of rough spots, especially regarding glitches, but a great short experience nonetheless.

Super jeu !

Took close to 5hrs to complete and although it might be a really short game, I enjoyed every second of it. With great contrast in the forest to the menacing locations for bosses.

An amazing detail that I really liked is the final boss music, really reeled me in and brought the last boss that much more captivating.

Sure, there were minute bugs but I won't detail it down because it does not affect the gameplay. Overall, this is definitely a must try because it isn't only a thriller but it involves mini puzzles for you to rack in about.

Overall, this game brings story-telling in a unique way. Highly recommend you to try if you're into this genre.
