The best Broken Sword since the first one and thankfully back to 2D.

This is the only Broken Sword I've played and thought it was pretty meh. I found everything in this game lackluster. The story was boring, the puzzles were boring and by the end of it I was just waiting to finish it.

Many of the puzzles are pretty obtuse, but at least they don't kill you. The depiction of Gnosticism is awful, though.

Despite its Kickstarter-era origins, it really feels like a Broken Sword game. The return to 2d also isn't paired with forced nostalgic fanservice stuff, at least not beyond the usual series links. And it's definitely up to the standards of the rest of the series.
The only thing I didn't like so much was that the UI / engine's a bit clunky and slow. It's not that it has technical problems like BS4, it just takes a bit of time to walk around and do things. Which deters you from trying actions that you're not confident will work, and that process leads to forgetting what you've already tried. Though it's probably no worse than the rest of the series for that.

The rebirth of a much-loved adventure series. The decision to take the franchise back to the traditional 2D point-and-click format has succeeded.

I received this game through xbox gold a long time ago and decided to pick it up between some bigger games, going into it with no expectations whatsoever. Well, while I had no expectations, somehow the game still managed to disappoint me. I just didn't care for the story or the characters and I thought that sometimes the story just dragged on and on. The first chapter felt completely redundant regarding the overall story and the second chapter felt really short? There was some themes of religion and rising hell (literally), but it just felt shoehorned most of the time. All in all, I don't have much to say regarding the whole game as it felt so unmemorable. I love point n click games, but I don't think I'll pick up the upcoming games in the series.

George and Nico are even worse than Ross and Rachel, just fuck already!

Perfectly adequate I guess? The game was funded by Kickstarter and boy does it show. It is utterly beholden to its fanbase. It has no desire to move the franchise forward in any meaningful way and seems wholly content in whacking the player over the head repeatedly with nostalgia and fanservice.

All of this would be fine if the writing was on a par with the first two games, or if it had the same ambition and cinematic flair of the third, but it's quite stale in those regards. Still, it follows the standard point & click adventure mould of BR1 and BR2, and as such has some fairly satisfying puzzles, which is a lot more than you can say for BR4, which has pretty much nothing going for it.

One of my favourite point and click games, i love the Broken Sword series. i would 100 recommend this game.

One part i did dislike about this tho, one trophy didnt pop so i had to start the game again, i recommend making a few saves just in case this happens to you.

Apparently I don't like the Broken Sword series. It's strange that it's taken me this long to figure it out.

The first half was OK, but the second part was great at times and utterly horrible at others. Oh the coincidences... oh the biblical claptrap... oh my inability to read sheet music.

Ergh... so the theme of this game is that of free will. Which means you get quite a few ham fisted conversations on determinism vs free will. Which is odd for a game that's so linear that it should propose that it's free will that rules the universe.

It felt like Nico had barely said hello to some of the characters (strangers mind you) before they began discussing philosophy.

Stobbard's waggling finger animation made me hate him and I think the goat thing is overdone. And Georges seems to see so much murder that he can joke about it afterwards as lightly as anything else in the game. But thinking about it I've never been entirely satisfied with any of the Broken Sword series.

So hopefully I'll remember and avoid dipping in again...

The return to form that fans were waiting for: Broken Sword 5 ditches the 3D style to go back to its root with beautiful illustrated backgrounds and characters which, while still polygonal, look very similar to the hand-drawn ones from 1 and 2. One wishes the series had never strayed from this formula at all.
