Why do people like video games to railroad you into exactly what you need to do? I feel like a mouse who has to go down the right corridor in order to find the cheese playing games like this. Graphically this game is fun and immersive, but that quickly fades away and when you have very little in tactical options for resolving a problem.
Company of Heroes 2 is pretty much a straight improvement over the first entry in the series, but it worries me just how much content is locked behind microtransactions and loot drops. For the sake of comparison, the first game also had standalone expansions for new factions so that hasn't changed, but the commanders, skins and such are a little ridiculous. Not to mention the in-game ads for other Relic products.
Apart from that, I like that the main campaign focuses on the Eastern Front rather than the Americans for once, but it does fall into the typical clichés about the Soviet Army and it's not particularly well written or interesting. However, the missions are alright so I'd say that the level of quality is about on par with the first game.
I think I would recommend the game to people who want a solid RTS or just like WW2 as it's pretty accessible for the genre anyways.

Truly great WW2 strategy game. While it's ridiculous that you have to buy the Americans and British factions, the game remains one of the best that you can play. It's not a game that you can relax to though, constant micromanagement is needed to compete with other players which makes it not the best game to play for long periods at least to me. Fun to come back to every now and then.
It's hard to say where this went wrong for me.
Relic make incredible strategy games, Dawn of War is honestly the best RTS ever made, and company of heroes 1 lacks content severly, but has some of the best squad based strategy mechanics ever made as far as I'm concered.
This is a strange, mechanically odd, system overloaded bloated mess. The ui is cramped, the strategy is hyper arcadey, this feels to me like this was made exclusivley to make comeptitve matches more viable, and the regular game less fun. Genuinely makes me sad
