I have now replayed the game, which thankfully runs fine on GOG.
It's still too frustrating for me to like sadly. Now I see why Cossacks 3 is just an HD remake of 1, it's a bit too niche to be appreciated by zoomers such as myself (although, does any other "fellow kid" who doesn't live in Eastern Europe even play historical, non Age of Empires RTSs?)
