It's crazy to me that this is what counts as a "good indie game" and not just because it's not an indie game, but because it's just the classic "throw so many systems at the player they're bound to like something" and I've never vibed with that structure. Though that's Stardew Valley which is beloved, so it shouldn't be surprising.
Really good shit. Might not be everyone's cup of tea because it throws so much stuff at the wall to see if it sticks that it becomes a jack-of-all-trades master of none kind of game. But the core mechanic: diving and collecting fish is good enough that even if you don't connect to the farm sim mini game, it won't last more than 2 mins before you can get back to what you like.

Fun premise, main story, and side hustle with the sushi restaurant. Found it very easy/fast at first, slows down to a better pace later. A lot to do; fishing, sushi quests, main quests, sea people quests, 3 different farms, collections, etc... Can be overwhelming but most can be ignored if desired. Overall a really fun play.
15+ hours and I had to quit playing because it started clicking some weird addiction in my brain and I didn’t want to harm myself. I spent more than 100 hours this year with Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth and this game is 100% like a Yakuza mini-game. I had more than enough, but the game is great. If you like management sims mixed "hunting action" with an interesting narrative. It is the always engaging "there is always something to do" kind of game.

Great first half with fun gameplay loop and momentum building thanks to continuous addition of smart mechanics. Second half becomes a bit repetitive and convoluted. Puzzle/stealth sections felt very tedious slow. Story mostly uninteresting. Would have preferred if the Sushi restaurant was a bigger part of the game.

I thought people were exaggerating when they said this was "the everything game" but it's actually true, you do do a lot in this.
It's extremely addicting, effortlessly funny, insanely charming and just overall a really good time. It does really fall off when you get to the final big area of the game but it's not enough to drag the entire experience down. I'll be keeping my eyes on mintrocket.

Not-really-an-indie-game Dave the Diver is a charming mix between crafting, managing a restaurant and exploring the ocean with a great 2,5D presentation. The gameplay expands over time and introduces new systems and quirky characters regularly. Better equipment lets the player dive deeper into the ocean, getting better resources to craft even better equipment. And make more money by capturing and serving more rare fish in the restaurant. There are quite a few systems to take care of but none of them is very deep or complex and mostly revolve around mini-games. There is also no time pressure or danger of going bankrupt. Overall it’s a very laid back and relaxing game that also works perfectly on the Steam Deck. Just don’t expect deep gameplay or truly engaging mechanics. It’s a simple game with a lot of heart and charm.

Good fun I'm not a fan of the aiming and forced button presses for harpoon fishing honestly but that is an addictive gameplay loop done well here. The Sushi restaurant side of things I would've liked some more complexity or an option for longer opening hours such as opening during the afternoon - not for economy issues It just felt it had more to give. It's a shame the cooking mama gameplay is reserved for certain VIPs much of which come late into the main content. It's a very back ended game becoming more reliant and heavy on gimmicks and joke scenarios seemingly because it isn't confident in the gameplay loop it's presented for the last 10-15 hours. It goes too far in some of these more indulgent encounters especially an egregious chase sequence that far outstays its welcome. Had the mini games that crop up more towards the final few hours of the game been better spread out among the other new additions to farming etc. It might've gone down better for me but the ending and game was fine if a bit anticlimatic for sequel/dlc bait (who knows what's next after Godzilla content.)
its a cute game with a lot of charm, but i feel like the amount of money pouring out of it kind of backfired. there's a bunch of little things you can spend your time paying attention to and the systems fall short enough that you get burnt out before seeing most of them through. i was here for the restaurant management and it was kinda fun, but that was a very small piece of an overly large game.
