Torne a recalcar...

Molt recomanable.

one of the many random games my dad got us....spent most of the time just blowing stuff up with a rocket launcher

The Just Cause of Japan

A very weird yet extremely fun shooter that is one of my personal favorite exclusives of the Xbox 360, EDF2017 is a riot and deserves to be remembered as such

The game is fairy simple, from a narrative and gameplay view, which means that anybody can try out this game and get it right away.

The act of shooting Ants and all types of enemies is ridiculously satisfying along with having an arsenal of dozens of weapons to try out

It is a tad on the repetitive side, but the game consistently rewards the player with more weapons to try out which keeps encouraging replayability.

While there is no online co op, it’s still fun with friends thanks to split screen. For all of its faults, I still hold a tremendous amount of respect for the game as if this game never released for America back in 2006, we probably would not have seen this series get localized further in the states.

To conclude, I can heavily recommend as a fun, mindless shooter with a ton of destruction! As of the writing of this review, the game is available for 5 bucks on the Xbox store. So if you’re interested, why not give it a shot?

You get to annihilate cities and bugs, what’s not to love about this game?

In spite of its lack of variety or what magazine review scores from back then would have you believe, running around blasting the shit out of a gazillion giant bugs with a bazooka is great, mindless arcadey fun, and it holds-up as a great purchase for either the Xbox 360 or the PS Vita.

3rd Finished Game of 2023

Earth Defense Force 3 (2021) (Switch)

Or

Earth Defense Force 2017 (2006) (Xbox 360)

Third entry of Earth Defense Force, I opted for the Switch version, remastered version that, is based on the Vita version with 7 extra missions and returning the Pale Wing class.

Game besides being officially considered the third of the franchise, is also a reboot of history, mixing elements, enemies, stages and weapons of the first two games with a new graphics engine.

Game more rounded so far with the best graphics, even more if played via emulator and increasing the internal resolution, much more balanced in terms of difficulty, but has less variety of enemies.

Difficulty: 05/10

Total playing time: 10h47

Score: 08/10

What do you think the THE LAST OF US guy thinks about this game? That it's a cute relic? That it's not reaching for everything the medium can achieve?

Imagine if every dollar and man-hour used to make THE LAST OF US PART II was given to this team instead. We'd have 200 games better than THE LAST OF US PART II. And none of them would have Troy Baker.

A pretty fun time. It was my first experience with Earth Defense Force and I loved it.

This series of games is perfect. So many levels with a rewarding gameplay loop. If your a fan of Godzilla this is the closest and best you'll ever get.

Got me into the series and is just the perfect point to do so. If you want a fun game where you just blow up aliens and bugs for 20 thousand missions then this is for you.

“Earth Defense Force” has a B-movie quality to it that grew on me with time. It might look terrible from a technical and artistic qualify, but behind what it lacks in budget is a lot of heart. It’s not the most intuitive or best feeling game, but there is some charm to the goofy nature of everything in the game. Even the act of running and gunning has a tongue in cheek aspect with how the model is so stiff. As a single player experience it does get monotonous and even boring. Especially with have absurdly long the game is for the type of Arcady action it offers. This feels more like a great couch co-op with some buddies, beers and everyone talking over the game. If that’s your setting, this might fit the bill.

Quirky game about an alien invasion that happened 6 years ago. Must've missed it.

Earth Defense Force 2017 is a sub par game that squeezes past with mediocre graphics, a barely passable frame rate, terrible controls, a rather useless camera, monotonous gameplay and a story on a string. I absolutely love it.

There is something inherently attractive to me about mid budget games. They often just take risks and use strange ideas, themes and concepts that bigger budget games with stocks and shareholders just won't. The by committee game design I call it, focus tested into bland goo. Earth Defense Force is the opposite of this. What makes this game so fun in spite of itself is it's low budget B movie like atmosphere. Like all enjoyable B movies the bad parts of the game are almost entertaining because they are expected. The premise of EDF 2017 is a simple one. You take control of a nameless generic looking trooper in the Storm 1 squad of the Earth Defense Force. This global force was put together when alien ships were discovered to be heading towards us, and on the off chance they weren't friendly, we stand prepared.

Like all good B movie inspired entertainment, the enemies are cheesy beyond compare. Initially the UFO's will drop giant ants that crawl up buildings and spit bright orange acid at you and your fellow EDF team mates. But as the game goes on the units vary to giant robots straight from the 1950 toy market, as well as smaller space ships and 50 feet long spiders. Boss fights are some of the more interesting part of the game, with 4 legged fortress's and giant mecha-dinosaurs who seem like lost relatives of Godzilla. The sense of scale with these skyscraper tall monsters is hugely impressive, though it can create lag at times. Though that almost feels like a feature on theme with it's budget and setting.

You get a huge variety of weapons to choose from, the scenery of everything is destructible. Hitting a building with a rocket launcher to level it to the ground trying to hit an ant? well it's just collateral damage in defense of Earth! Hilarious, entertaining and doesn't take itself seriously. The co-op play and the optional challenge of the difficulty levels gives the game some replay value despite it's repetition. 2017 had split screen co-op for extra explosions and extra lag but beating it on Inferno difficulty after a lot of grinding and trialing weapons with a friend was a real challenge we enjoyed though not for everyone that's for sure.

This was the first game in the series I played. I bought it on a whim as it was cheap for a new game at the time. They were originally part of a Japanese budget line of titles though the newer games are more full price launches. I've played several titles in the series since, hundreds of hours on them with Earth Defense Force 5 to play with a friend in the new year ready. There is something inherently magical about your first time though and despite latter games being bigger, with more enemies, classes, vehicles and destruction it's this one that I have the most fond image of the series of.

Regardless Earth Defense Force is a highly entertaining series whether you start here or elsewhere. Flawed yes, reeking of cheese and tacky biscuits yes, but a blast all the same.
