Ysayle san....would you like to be invited to the echelons of team milk by any chance?

The story was actually getting pretty interesting. The dungeon was pretty cool, and I absolutely loved that Shiva trial. The tie into the Ishgardian knights was nice and overall I really enjoyed the questline.

As multiple threads continue to be woven, this patch feels like a direct response to my main complaint for the last patch, which was tonal whiplash; a problem which also resulted in a boring first half. This patch is consistently interesting, and granted, I have enjoyed the previous patches, but this is the first one to truly get me excited for Heavensward; more specifically, the narrative highs that said first expansion can possibly provide.

To break away from the prior patches' tradition, we finally get a MSQ dungeon in the form of Snowcloak, and while I don't usually like snow-themed "levels" much, this one was good, especially its boss. But the real highlight was the Shiva trial. The music bro... THE MUSIC!

Anyway, my boiling hatred for Teledji continues, and Ul'dah is honestly so corrupt at this point, that I'm lowkey wishing for a Sodom and Gomorrah style cataclysm on this joint if things don't get better. Raubahn and the Sultana deserve better and I just want to give them the biggest hug; I weep for my two precious friends. I'm eager to see the rammifications of The Sultana's decision to step down as monarch, both in relation to what that means for Ul'dah's government moving forward, and also the general populace's reaction.

Holy shit that Shiva boss theme

The Scions and their Crystal Braves continue making terrible decisions. The narrative's repeated references to the Warrior of Light's undisputed fame, prowess, and just overall goodness has become pretty obviously foreshadowing: none of this will last. Another bit of of foreshadowing is how discovering a traitor amongst the Immortal Flames is also a hint at treachery closer to the WoL.

All this foreshadowing gets exhausting, however. It's clear the writers are basically seeding years worth of plot in each one of these patches, which on one hand is great, but on the other is a bit exhausting. We are constantly denied closure, living in a doubtless entertaining and intriguing limbo, but a limbo nevertheless.

STARING AT DEATH, I TAKE A BREATH, THERE'S NOTHING LEFT
NOW CLOSE MY EYES, FOR ONE LAST TIME, AND SAY GOODBYE
LYING NAKED WHILE THE SNOW FALLS ALL AROUND ME
DRIFTING CLOSER TO THE EDGE BUT SHE WON'T HAVE ME
WAKE UP IN SWEAT, FULL OF REGRET, TRY TO FORGET
THESE MEMORIES, LURKING BENEATH, LOST IN A DREAM
UNCHOSEN PATHS, A BROKEN PAST, FORESPOKEN WRATH
THE PAIN WON'T CEASE, I'LL FIND NO PEACE, NO SWEET RELEASE
FRAGILE CREATURES, WE ARE TAUGHT TO FEAR THE REAPER
EVER RUNNING, WE ARE DEAD BEFORE WE MEET HER
THESE VOICES TELLING ME LET IT GO (LET IT ALL GO)
I TRY AND TRY BUT I CAN'T SAY NO (TRY AND SAY NO)
THIS ENDLESS NIGHTMARE HAS JUST BEGUN (NOWHERE TO RUN)
MY HEART IS DRAGGING ME DOWN INTO OBLIVION
THE ENDLESS LIES, I'VE CAST ASIDE, LOCKED THEM IN ICE
STEELED IS MY SOUL, MY BLOOD GROWN COLD, I'VE GAINED CONTROL
FEARLESS CREATURES, WE ALL LEARN TO FIGHT THE REAPER
CAN'T DEFEAT HER, SO INSTEAD I'LL HAVE TO BE HER
THESE VOICES SCREAMING TO LET IT GO (NEVER LET GO)
THIS TIME I'M SCREAMING BACK NO NO NO (GO ON SAY NO)

Honestly, this is the best part of the post-ARR questline. Some really good Heavensward tie-ins made it engaging. Good trial, but ultimately it's too short a reprieve from the rest of the post-game of ARR.

Story finally starts picking up for real in this one, and the music during the trial was absolutely insane.
