Although I was really looking forward to playing this game, I have to say that I didn't like it as much as I expected. Without voices or sounds to simulate them, it gets quite heavy at times. Maybe it would be nice to play it in two or more sessions, so that doesn't happen.
Unless you want to get all the achievements, replaying it is not the best idea. Even then, you can't save or load and the only way is to replay the chapter the achievement was in, which means you may have to replay most of it to get to the exact part.
The ending wasn't the best, but it wasn't bad either.

A couple of months ago I had a chance to visit Little Miss Misfortune again and get a new dose of depression. I sincerely thought that the authors would not be able to dig deeper, but a recent trip into the crazy world of Fran Bow opened my eyes to the true essence of what was happening. Along with the cold autumn wind, melancholy and anxiety rushed into my soul, which made me think about many serious things.
Little Fran was always a cheerful and cheerful child who loved fairy tales. She constantly talked to fictional characters and endowed inanimate objects with human qualities. The world was bright and interesting for her, but the events of the last days broke her fragile heart. The girl lost her parents too early and now did not know how to live further. All dreams, desires and interests were shattered by the harsh realities of life, leaving Fran to drown in the open ocean of her own fears and phobias. She was found in an insane state on the side of the road and was quickly assigned to a local home for the mentally ill. Despite the personality disorder and bouts of psychosis, the girl did not look unhappy at all. She was constantly inventing something, was active and desperately wanted to meet her missing cat - Mister Midnight. Due to Fran's unusual diagnosis, she was prescribed an experimental drug, Duotin.
However, the girl very quickly discovered a side effect of the pills that allowed her to see the other side of things and travel through a terrible alternate reality. Death was on her heels, gathering a bloody harvest, but our heroine did not give up. This brave child decided to act and move forward to find those responsible for the death of her parents. Very soon the tracks lead the girl to amazing lands, where reality and fiction merge together. Fran will have to trust her heart to determine who is her friend and who is her enemy. The darkness is thickening and eerie shadows are already out hunting for the heart of a brave girl. Sometimes, to achieve what you want, you have to cheat even death.
Before us is a point-&-click quest with beautiful art. Our task is to guide the heroine of the game named Fran through fire and water so that she can find the truth. On our way we will meet many characters, but not everyone can be trusted. The gameplay consists of collecting quest items and finding places to use them. The game has a “parallel reality” mechanic, when one scene has two types of display that we can switch using tablets or other tools. The puzzles are evenly distributed between realities, so there are practically no problems with solving them. Although of course there are several “special” tasks in the game. In addition to collecting items, we will be able to combine things with each other and study some of them to obtain additional information or components.
The central place in the game is the plot. The world through the eyes of a child is very different from what adults see. Children know how to hide problems in a pile of colored candy wrappers and skillfully abstract themselves from uncomfortable circumstances in their imaginary world. Little Misfortune perfectly explored this theme, showing us the image of an unwanted and trampled child who is forced to hide in an imaginary world, surrounded by magical creatures. And if Little Miss Misfortune treated life’s adversities with humor and did not hesitate to send ill-wishers away in order to find happiness for her parents, then things are much worse for Fran Bow.
Fran was a beloved child and grew up surrounded by caring people from childhood, so when her happiness is taken away from her and thrown into a cold, hostile world, she is not ready for this. Here, creative fiction and an attempt to escape from reality play the role of therapy, which does not allow our heroine to go crazy from the grief she has experienced. Perhaps in this way she is trying to find answers to questions that have no explanation in reality. Constantly being between life and death, she experiences many emotions, which the authors of the game skillfully expressed in the form of characters and locations. Fran is surrounded by murderers, psychopaths and people with unhealthy desires, but the girl does not consider them bad at all. Her parents did not have time to instill in her the concept of evil, so our heroine, even in “Prince of Darkness,” sees a creature who is simply accustomed to living by certain rules. She will never forgive anyone for what she has done, but her kind heart looks for positive aspects even in villains who are rotten to the core.
Fran Bow carries within herself many psychological complexes, problems and outlooks on life. The heroine, embodied in a ten-year-old girl, very quickly wins you over and makes you empathize with her misfortunes. It often becomes difficult to determine what is reality and what is fiction, but this is not so important. The main thing is that the authors of the game were able to convey to their audience many important points that run like a red thread through the plot.
Despite the abundance of cruelty, murder and terrible scenes, I would call this game life-affirming. Our existence on this earth can proceed in different ways, and often life is far from being a set of colored pieces of glass in a kaleidoscope. Each of us has experienced our own pain and felt the bitterness of misfortune, but life goes on. Fran teaches us to see a way out of any situation and encourages us not to give up in the face of grief. She was able to pacify her own hell in her head and control the pain. Although the ending of the game seemed blurry to me, I was still able to get a full range of impressions from the passage. I believe that Fran Bow is much more serious and tragic than the later Miss Misfortune. After finishing the game, I sat for a long time and watched the lines of credits run before my eyes, turning over recent events in my head. I will definitely remember this game for a long time. A tragic, crazy, but life-affirming story about the unbending will of man and the magical power of sincere feelings.
