It's the best and optimal way to play Most Wanted 2012, as it fixes a lot of issues from the PS3 version. But, it's the best way to play a very flawed game that I wouldn't recommend anybody. If you still want to play it, play this version.

spent hours just driving around the world avoiding cops, never did any races

Coming complete with all the DLC as well as the ability to swap cars much quicker with the Wii U gamepad, puts this version ahead of its mainline counterpart.
Unlike some other games ported to the Wii U system, Need for Speed Most Wanted U makes great use of the gamepad's screen, allowing players to easily change or respray their car on the fly, check a much better version of the minimap, disrupt perusing cops with the tap of the touchscreen or even play the whole game just on the gamepad screen.
There are also some fun Nintendo-related eastereggs that are exclusive to this version of the game, such as hidden warp pipes that teleport you to secret underground locations as a reference to Super Mario.
Overall a good racing game and likely your best bet when it comes to a licensed-car racing game on the Wii U.

Despite thoroughly enjoying this game I never managed to go back and beat the game. With that being said, I put enough time into the game to enjoy it and unlock different cars and play different modes. The open world was not anything extraordinary, yet it was fun to explore it all while experiencing the most wanted theme with cops chasing you.

This Wii U version also brought some interesting extras to the table such as extra content, the ability to swap cars on the fly, and some other cool Wii U game pad content.

Crashing into your friends is fun.
