Maybe not the best Persona game to experience first but still

(FYI, I'm just talking about the remaster instead of actual P3P, I love P3P to death btw so this ain't a review where I act like the game ruined my life. Gonna be writing a review for the PSP version of P3P with my actual thoughts on the game now post reload.)
What the hell happened here? This port is pretty bad. They didn't bother to add the 3d hub worlds, or add the FMV cutscenes and how the game looks and sounds worse than the PSP version. The AI upscaled backgrounds are heavily mixed on how they look, some are...passable but others look like shit. Like paulownia mall, the protagonists room and many more. The audio sounds muffled like all hell for some reason even though they're the exact same files from the PSP version. This looks awful on a TV, I played it on a huge TV that supported 1080p and my god it looks bad. How the fuck did Sega look at this and say "yea it's good. ship it."
Also, Sega has to be a new type of stupid to think this is a good exception for people to play FEMC on modern consoles since from her being excluded from reload, what a joke.
Wouldn't new players playing it just have the question of "why isn't this character in the remake?"
Plus with them not bothering to upgrade the visuals and this being one of the worst ways to play as the male protag and that they cannibalized the sales for this "remaster" by announcing reload not even a year after this came out.
the only reason to play this port is just to play as the FEMC and to hear the OG persona 3 dub.
If you have the hardware, emulate the PSP version. But if you can't, well probably just play this for FEMC or just wait for a suprise femc dlc for p3 reload

Still made me cry with those visual-novel ass cutscenes.

now that persona 3 reload is out, i can't really recommend this as much, but however i am broke and can't play persona 3 reload, so this will be a review for the overall story, character and gameplay itself, and it still manages to be insanely good after it all, i would rather say just play P3R, but if you REALLY just want to play P3P, then go ahead lmao (or just really want to play as FEMC)

Definitely the worst version of Persona 3, but still pretty great.. and worth it for Kotone... she deserves the world (this port is absolutely unacceptable though, what the fuck Atlus)

4.5 Stars for fun, minus 2 for PSP limitations, minus half for ai backgrounds upscaling but 3 plus for femc Kotone

It's kind of a shame this was the most accessible version of Persona 3 until Reload came out. It's far from a bad game, since it carries over Persona 3's excellent story, albeit truly awful villains. However, the PSP holds this game back heavily by making the player a cursor hovering over a PNG 75% of the game.

why no 3d model, but good game? Until 2/2/2024

IMO, its the weaker of the pesonas I've played. It has some good values though, it has a good story and I enjoyed the gameplay for the most part. The thing that drags this down a peg or two are the characters, both the party and the confidants. They just aren't that interesting or compelling...and some are just flat out weird. It'll be shelved for now to make room for other games I'm interested in, but I definitely will come back to this to give more of a proper opinion on it.

FemMC social links superior. Battle system archaic.

i bought this port the second it showed up on the ps store and i don't regret it one bit, even if it took me a year to beat 😭 junpei iori will always be my mvp... my goat... goatpei kinori...

possible better than reload, depending on the mood

(from original post in 2023) Get a ps2 emulator and play FES instead

"persona has gone woke" mfs when i show them the femc route

Definitely the worst way to play Persona 3. The only reason I can ever recommend playing this over FES or Reload is to play the FemC route which isn't in the other versions. The story and characters are still very good because for the most part it's just a downgraded version of Persona 3, but a lot of emotional moments lose their impact due to the presentation of the game being more limited. All of the animated cutscenes from the original that were used to properly convey dramatic moments are gone and replaced with screenshots of the cutscenes with dialogue over them, or just replaced with the same visual novel style events that happen throughout the whole game. All 3D overworld movement is gone and you now just move a cursor around the screen and click on characters and locations you want. This removes a lot of the immersion from the game and feels very boring. The combat on the other hand is an improvement from FES in my opinion. One of the reasons I didn't enjoy FES from what I played was the combat where you couldn't control your party members, and the entire tired system. In Portable you now have full control of your party and the tired system is much less annoying which makes Tartarus a lot less tedious to go through. Just like the original Persona 3 and FES however, a lot of the time in the game feels very empty. You'll end up going weeks in the game with nothing really interesting happening which got me very burnt out on the game for a while. Overall P3P is still a good game because it has Persona 3 as a base, but its presentation and downgrades make it the worst way to experience Persona 3 in my opinion.

Absolutely the worst way to play Persona 3. However, there's still a lot to get out of this game. Amazing story, great character interactions, the core persona battle system is still present and functional. Play Reload instead though.

I would rather play fes or reload, but femc is so cool. Other than that it's a compromised port of one of my favorite games ever, and a compromised port is a port none the less.

I actually am struggling to think of the right words to put here. This game is beautiful and I’m glad I got to play it at least once.

My first persona game. I really liked turn based combat, OST, social links and story even tho this version of the game have textboxes and pictures of characters instead of cutscenes, even exploring the city is like that, which is stupid. More reasons to play Reload or FES, but the fact that I finished this 70 hour game says a lot about persona 3.

In the wake of the release of P3R, this version of P3 is usually skipped over unless you're playing for Kotone. It's a remastered game, so while the gameplay is a bit slower, it's fine. The slower pacing makes it more introspective and gives time to the characters, compared to the flashy grandiose of P5 that tends to leave its characters behind. The new perspectives through Kotone shine; compared to the original P3 SL that Makoto/Minato received, the other guys of SEES is revealed and a vulnerability not attached to romance is shown. If the attention to writing characters as people had continued with this level of attention to the later entries, I would have enjoyed those more. However, the sort of fetish/attachmemt Persona has towards age gap (pedophilic - of adults either hitting on teens or the option of the player character getting involved with adults and in P3P there is a romantic route with the child character) romances (I haven't played P1, but it is present in P2 as well) remains. Even if optional, it still leaves a sour taste. The overall story is the same, and criticisms of how some twists and characters utilized are still either left field or done cheaply, but overall I did like Kotone's SL writing more than Makoto's, and I'm sad that she isn't present in Reload. P3 engages with its themes of death, loss, and becoming better to continue living, moreso than 4/5 did. The school calendar system that was built for it compliments it well, and through it I saw how it held back 4/5, the latter especially.
The game uses a VN format, and it's a bit disconnected as the exploration from FES and Reload lets you get a bit closer to the verisimilitude of the setting.
I found this game at 9 but only played it nearly a decade and more later. It is a very quiet game, and I would also describe it as kind.

Game is amazing, just a bit dated. Soundtrack is amazing, voice acting is for the most part really good and the Social Links are really good too.

SPOILER Story is amazing as hell. Especially after Ryoji tells you about The Fall, the tension between SEES is just great writing overall.

Also i just have to comment on FemC, and how ass she is. I din’t get why she has so many fans. She has a couple new Social Links with just two completely new characters, who aren’t even good. Both their stories start alright and have good potential but they just waste it so bad. And the other new Social Links, which are the male SEES members, are just alright. Junpei’s SL is pretty alright, nothing special. Akihiko and Ken’s SL’s are just them thirsting for you, Koromaru is just ass. Shinjiro is actually a really good SL though. The only one worth doing. The rest are completely the same, disappointing.

And the “new” scenes you get with FemC DON’T EXIST. The only changes are that they say her instead of him and some very, very minor changes in dialogue. There are only three scenes that are changed “majorly” which are the scenes in Yakushima, the Hot Spring scene and the summer vacation sport team scene.

The Yakushima one is so pointless. The scene is that you’re with the girls instead if doing Operation: Babe Hunt with the guys. But the scene that you participate in (you don’t really) is shown is the Male MC’s route anyways, so you see nothing new. And they show Operation: Babe Hunt anyways so it’s just pointless.

The Hot Spring scene is changed a bit, but it’s a hot spring scene so it’s ass no matter which side you’re on.

And the most pointless on the is the summer vacation sports team trip. In the Male MC’s route, the purpose it has is to introduce you to Mamoru, but in FemC’s route, it’s just fan service cuz they take you to Yasogami and you meet Yukiko. Nothing else. You waste like 8 days for fan service. What the fuck.

FemC does not deserve the attention she gets at all. She should not be in Reload since she’s a pointless addition that had no meaningful differences and was just a selling point for the game.

No geral nĂŁo gosto do Persona 3, talvez o Reload mude minha opiniĂŁo.

To start things off, i initially intended to play Persona 3 FES before the remake comes out, but then my save file got corrupted and i lost about 20 hours of progress so i instead started Portable some time later, and my god this game is great, the Story, the characters, the music it's just great, i also really like that the combat in Tartarus is a lot more pleasent with you being able to control your party members and the addition of the female Protagonist, overall this would have been my favorite persona game , but i am not really that big of a fan of the story being told as a visual novel as i feel like, certain scenes don't really hit that hard like they did in the original. (Yes i know it was because of the psp but still) but still it's a fantastic game that i can definetly recommend c:

vocĂȘ percebe que o negĂłcio Ă© diferente quando vocĂȘ jĂĄ sabe como acaba e mesmo assim fica em depressĂŁo quando acaba.
memento mori, memento vivere.

memories of you...

I played this entire game following the schedule for almost a whole year. Hopefully that's the last I play this game for a while. Oh, and also the port is dogshit and needs mods to become an enjoyable experience.
