Honestly? Doesn't hold up like I remember. It's got a great story and characters, and the setting/vibes are super distinct and enjoyable, but the actual process of playing the game is so linear and forgettable. Not bad by any means but...yeah.

Loved the addition of regional variants and the trials are a nice change on the gym formula

I don't think I'm going to try and finish moon, but I got most of the way through it. It was fine, though I was getting tired of the pokemon formula when I played it

Not the best of the Pokémon games, but still a solid enough entry that I had fun playing

Better than Emerald. Cooler than Rayquaza. I love the new features way more than most.

Not as good as the other 3DS Pokemon games imo…

The other best Pokémon game with an amazing story and neat gimmick to boot. It even keeps the previous gimmick from X and Y that was really cool.

This is the definitive Gen 7 story experience. The extra characterization of Lusamine in later games and media ruins one of the only interesting and complex character relationship dynamics in the series.

Music is so good and the little Z-dances are so funny.

A genuinely fun Pokemon game held back by the constant interruptions of cutscenes that make the game nigh unplayable. Just remove them, and this could have been one of the best Pokemon games.

one of my first pokemom games and one of the best in the series in my opinion, lacking only some story depth and quality of life introduced in the even better sequels

Its got rowlet my beloved, but fuck Hau for stopping me every 5 seconds

Blown out of the water by the Ultra rerelease. I enjoyed my time with it, but this was the point where I was started to feel fatigued with newly released Pokemon games. It was clearly cobbled together to meet an anniversary and we wouldn't see it fully fleshed out until USUM. And, no, Lusamine's story does not make this version better.

After the shortcomings of X/Y, Sun/Moon feels like an apology meant for players like me. First and setting the stage, the music is immaculate - the Hawaiian-inspired music is immediately memorable and a much better use of streaming music than the bland and boring music of XY, and having some excellent battle music and theme music on top of that is great.
Much of the other aspects of the game are like that too. The characters in this game are some of my favorites in the series and the story is quite enjoyable, and it really just feels like a refreshing splash after being starved of such things, like it seems so obvious you'd want these things.
I said that the game is memorable, but many of the routes and dungeons are not. I don't mind it being linear but I do think there could have been better dungeons.

The Pokemon themselves are mostly good, though I feel like the introduction of region forms may have overshadowed the regular new Pokemon themselves. Also, this is around when Masuda went full casual and made a bunch of Pokemon intentionally not very good to use. The Battle Tower is there and a few challenges here and there, and of course the Ultra Beasts and Guardians.

Z-Moves are on one hand a fun and mostly balanced mechanic that I really like, and on the other hand pretty obviously a sign that Pokemon was taking on the identity of Yo-kai Watch. The fact that they had to share space with Mega-Evos didn't help. Also, I also just plain forgot about the battle royal mode.

Overall though, I think Sun/Moon was a great time and closest to what I want out Pokemon than any of the other 3D Pokemon games.

Was Lunala cooler than Solgaleo? Probably not.

I only like this game because of nostalgia. I could not replay it for the life of me.

Man if you could fuse this and SOME of the Ultra additions, this might be the second best Pokémon game. The cutscenes can suck on a re-play, but the story and "evil" teams are great and a neat diversion from terrorism, eco-terrorism, and whatever the hell Cyrus was on. Lusamine is ruined in every other piece of Pokémon media (except maybe the manga I have not read it yet) and that is a shame.

Fun fact: I won a OU tournament with friends using Comfey as my main gimmick, it was really funny

This is what I'm talking about when I say I wanna play a Pokemon game, the first time they tried something new and to me they knocked it out of the park. Trials were just what Pokemon needed for it to feel refreshing, the starters are all good and unique, the final four is actually challenging. This did start the trend of having your rival choose the starter that is weak to yours, which really sucks to me. It's kind of indicative of the biggest issue with the game, its so easy. They really hold your hand the entire time which kind of lets it down, if it was more difficult this could be the best Pokemon game.

this is the best Pokémon game

Pokemon Sun and Moon are the most underrated Pokemon games tbh.

Overall good game, story is good and its my favourite by far when it comes to pvp, z-moves, mega evolving and the new pokemons are on point especially the regional forms. If I were to recommend their first Pokémon game to someone it would probably be this one.

crazy that i like this game so much despite it being so hard programmed for six-year-olds with a 2 hour tutorial. alolan raichu and lillie are two of the best things this franchise has done to-date and the setting to this game feels a lot fresher than most of the other regions.
