The control scheme/presentation on mobile isn't great since the game was designed around two screens, but it still works pretty well. Other than that I kind of forgot how many of the puzzles were either just public school math problems or trick questions.

MORE LIKE DON PAOLO AND THE MOTHERFUCKIN ASS DICKHEAD OF LAYTON HD FOR MOBILE (2018)

honestly this game is really fucking good even if i dont think about it as much as the other layton games

The original game would get 3/5 because it is the weakest in the first series, which is fair enough as it was the first game and naturally was surpassed by its sequels.

I had forgotten how good the story and dialogue in these games were. The puzzles are also wonderfully clever, and the general vibe is delightfully cosy. Almost like playing a Ghibli film.

The remake, however, gets an extra star for improved graphics and audio. Gameplay does suffer a little due to the lack of second screen, but it does not cause too much issue.

However, if you like Flora, it's probably not worth bothering with the rest of the series. This is the most characterisation she ever gets, sadly.

Great game and a very good port too. I'd reccomend this game for puzzle fans and for the story too :)

A fun little game with a very wtf ending.
The puzzles were a bit too hard at times but otherwise it was a good challenge.

this may get knocked down in future as im replaying the series

i grew up w Layton on the DS so this was an absolute nostalgia trip, i love how gorgeous this looked & sounded in HD, and even though i apparently remembered EVERY twist it still was great cause this game is a master of foreshadowing and it was neat seeing how it all builds up to the reveals

logic puzzles im godlike at, fuck the maths ones and REALLY fuck the sliding block ones 🔥🔥💯💯💯

i find the funny sausage man funny and this game oozes charm. onto playing pandora on my 3ds because i somehow still own that! ill miss the HD

It's just as charming as I'd remembered, though still lacking in all the same ways. The puzzles are great, even if largely disconnected from the narrative. It's more of an interactive puzzle book with a simple Agatha Christie mystery to string it through. It's not nearly on her level of complexity, but at least everything serves its small purpose. In the original trilogy it's the one with the smallest scope and the fewest plot holes. That's good enough for me.

Also those tacked on cutscenes are horseshite.

My first time playing a Professor Layton game in a while; I’m not even sure if I’ve ever finished Curious Village on DS, actually. This was a marvelous joy to play again all the way through, and I couldn’t get enough of the puzzles, so I made sure I did every. single. one. I loved this series as a teen and kind of want to play them all again now.

I have actually never played curious village before on my DS, so coming back from the unwound future and newer installments, this game took a little getting used to. That undeniably stems from it being the first in the series and lacking the budget the later installments had.

It took me 3 years from starting it for the first time to finally completing it, even though it just took me 10 hours from begin to finish. This is probably also due to the fact, that I never really got into playing full video games on my phone. I'm glad I created a new safe and pushed through this year though.

The story is one of the weakest (at least from the ones I played) and takes it's time until it really gets going but it has a cool twist and overall is still quite enjoyable.

The puzzles were solid throughout, although I prefer the more contextualized puzzles in the world that are directly tied to the main story or reaching a new area instead of the ones where someone goes: "Hey, this reminds me of this one puzzle, about...". This is one of the most famous lines out of all the Layton games and rightfully so. I do enjoy this because of it's charming character, don't get me wrong but this game has significantly less of those bigger ones than any other Layton game I played.

Overall this is a fun, easy accessible and cheap charming little game with a wonderful soundtrack, which laid the foundation of the later installments. It's worth picking up, whether it is out of nostalgia or curiosity to see where it all started. I liked it :)
