this game is fucking awesome idk why anyone rates it less than 5/5 they're probably very stupid.

you can throw your force thingy at the boss and it latches on it deals huge damage, charges ur super weapon then u unleash that shit in his face and u die anyway cuz this game is so hard like wtf why is it so hard i dont care tho its satisfying to get thru hard sections and as mentioned u can do a lot of crazy shit and pull off complex strategies to get ur way.

the graphics and music are badass and moody at the same time, the ending is fucking scary as hell like this game almost crosses into horror game territory at times. i haven't played all the r-type games but i played like 5 and this one's the best 5/5 u can also play as one of 3 ships

They hate me so much for choosing R13 Cerberus and for what

I think I secretly want this to be my favorite r-type, it's so quirky.
but tbh, the arcade original is just so much more iconic.

that said, if you like r-type, play this game. it's so fucking good.

The best R-Type in my eyes before R-Type Final. Multiple ships to unlock, fun gameplay with the Delta weapon and multiple Forces (module).

Sadly the game is very hard and some levels way too long.

if anything, worth it for the last level

Probably the best R-Type game all around, with the only thing holding it back being the graphics, which were great for the time, however, don't hold up all that well today, much like the rest of the 3d PS1 library. This games immersion is its greatest strength, the levels are a perfect example of the series' Giger roots, complete with music that fits the levels -and the happenings therein- perfectly, with stage 2 being one of the best; with 2 full audiotracks for being fully submerged and surfaced in the water. The story this time is pretty involved for an R-Type game, with throwbacks to the first game, ending with a tragic duel with the first games pilot and ship. The final level and boss are one of the best in the series in terms of sheer spectacle and awe, with an ending sequence for the R13 that highlights the grim nature of the universe. A must play, especially on an emulator for some graphical tweaks to make the artstyle easier on the eyes.
