Very janky, a little unbalanced, awfully slow to run, punishingly random difficult spikes and a slog of a campaign. That being said, making Robot Wars robots was the coolest thing in the world and I had a blast with this game. I still remember a lot of the genuinely weird script Jonathon Pearce was given for the game's commentary.. and I still remember calling my save file JPearce to unlock infinite money to make the coolest robots I could.

A decent licensed game with a good robot creator.

The older I've gotten, the more I've realised that this is definitely a "Make Your Own Fun" kind of game. Still, I loved it as a kid and me and my friends loved it as teenagers because it was so crap.

Only 3 licenced robots, a miserabl grind-y economy, and bad gameplay.

There's totally a 25 quid modern day indie spin on the Robot Wars idea that would rock - this ain't it.

Very difficult and punishing game that I was never good at when I was a kid. I rarely made it past the first level or two. Losing a match meant having to pay for repairs to your robot (iirc), so it was better to just reset your save if you lost early on.

Making your own robot and putting them against other robots was fun though. I got more out of the robot creator than any other part of this game. Was a fan of the show as a kid and this game captured the spirit of the show well, even if it was very brutal with its difficulty. On the flipside though, it is probably reflective of the difficulties of budgeting and building a fighting robot for real.

This was a fun little game back in the day. The creative level design of arenas all over the world made matches infinitely more entertaining and the ability to create your own robots was always a fun challenge when you had grown tired of the ones from the show.
