Title says it all. It's the next Tetris, nothing else
The Next Tetris is well-made Tetris.
The Next Tetris adds a brand new mode featuring multiminos with the goal of clearing out a line of junk, with options for randomized levels, or pre-made puzzles where you must clear the junk in a certain amount of blocks, and these puzzles are super difficult. The mode itself though, is a fun spin on traditional Tetris gameplay. If you don't care about that, regular Tetris is here and good as ever, I would be genuinely impressed if classic Tetris was ever made bad.
I'm not sure there's a point to playing this in 2023 though, there are more modern games available, but it's not a bad time.
The only real critique I have is the presentation. There's not really any personality with The Next Tetris. Boring backgrounds, uninteresting menus, it doesn't really do anything to differentiate itself as a Tetris game, which is probably why it's gone forgotten. However, I think if you were to set up an emulated version, The Next Tetris can be a pretty enjoyable evening, but it might just be more convenient to fire up the more modern versions of Tetris.
