Z.A.R. is noteworthy from a technical standpoint because it employs voxel graphics which allow for true dynamic destructible environments.
The game is divided into self contained missions that can get a bit repetitive, but the environments stay reasonably varied for the whole campaign. Maps in general are very open ended and using the terrain to your advantage is key to succeeding.
There are no hit-scan weapons in the player's arsenal, all of them are some sort of projectile or explosive and don't lack creativity. Although I would have liked a bit more ammo because some enemies are hard to hit. Also, the controls are not standard at all so I recommend checking them before playing.
