It's a Pokemon game, so it's solid like the rest. I didn't really love gen VI, but XY introduced dressing up your player character, and I love that. I love the Fairy-type as well, though that's mostly because it made the Poison-type stronger as a result, and that's my favorite type. The story was pretty good here? When can we go back to fun stories instead of whatever Sword and Shield was trying to do...
Pokémon Y is the first MAINLINE game I played (the first Pokémon game I played was a spin off). Man it was fun collecting my Pokémon, leveling them up, exploring the map to find new Pokémon; the gym leaders, and while yes I heard this game is "too easy" because it was my first mainline Pokémon game I had fun.
I remember dropping this game after 2 gyms when it came out. Around the time Pokemon GO came out I picked it back up and liked it just fine. The difficulty is set pretty low and the aesthetics are bland, but Pokemon Y still introduced some cool things. I got pretty into the online before gen 7 came out, and the regional dex is one of the strongest in pokemon. That's more to say compared to let's go and USUM...
~0.5/5.~
Appaling. I literally can't mention something I like from this game, aside from the addition of the fairy type, which isn't even an amazing addition. Awful additions as the Mega's, forgettable and dull characters as the rivals which are probably the worst in the franchise, a convulted story which has an awful execution and ends abruptly. I dislike everything that cames from this game. Disapointing.

Pokemon's always had kind of a rough go of it when they upgrade to a new console, huh? Well, at least since the DS era, anyway. Pokemon XY are no different, but I still think it's a pretty enjoyable gen in spite of that. The Pokemon variety route to route makes it pretty fun to try new team compositions on different playthroughs and makes it pretty fun to do Nuzlocke runs, especially.
The story itself isn't great, which comes off considerably worse after how fantastic Gen 5's story was, and the characters feel a little underbaked. I don't think the friend team were bad, necessarily, but they definitely could've stood to have more development. Like... Trevor's whole backstory is contained in a house in Luminose that's easy to miss because Luminose is a nightmare to navigate. It never comes up outside of that despite being a pretty cool hook for a character arc? It's a mess. HOWEVER, the Looker storyline in the postgame is genuinely really good, so it's actually worth getting to the game for that.
Megas are a lot of fun and I kind of miss them, honestly, though the distribution is kind of baffling. Who thought Garchomp needed one. Also I really do like this gen's Pokemon, a lot of them are very cute and good. Outside of the great Looker storyline there isn't much of a postgame except for the obligatory Battle Tower type thing, and this... really feels like it needed a third version? A Z version, perhaps, about the third legendary that was weirdly inserted into Sun and Moon? Ehh, we need to get to the next gen for the anniversary. It'll be fine.
Anyway, this gen is very much imperfect, but I thought it was a lot of fun anyway.

Completely rekindled my love for the franchise. Had so much exploring the world and catching Pokemon. The EXP. Share meant that I could just catch all the Pokemon that I liked and didn't have to worry about grinding. Due to having a team of 20 Pokemon to rotate through, I was even underleveled at the end of the game! Final party consisted of: Pangoro (Knuckles), Blastoise (Gunner), Aurorus (Krystallos), Garchomp (Chomp!), Lapras (Queen), Goodra (Smiley), Aegislash (Hexcalibur), Blaziken, Talonflame (Talonblaze), Absol (Lady), Raichu (Rai), Pyroar (Nala), Vivillon (Autumn), Chesnaught (Juggernaut), Haxorus (X), Lucario (Wolf), Gengar (Spectre), Klefki (Kiki), Yveltal (Armageddon) and Pupitar (Empress).
