Game about going very fast -> if you go too fast it punishes you

A proof of concept so brilliant that it briefly dethroned Mario as the king of the industry. I grew up with it included in the 'Genesis 6-pak' yet I never played it because it's completely overshadowed and outclassed by all the innovations the sequels brought to the table.

As someone used for Mario games, this game flet like a good wind. Musics, level desgins, zones... I enjoyed the game very much. I'm really bad when the levels became lil bit of a labyrinth tho but that a skill issue so it won't affect the rating I'm giving to it. In the end, a game that everyone can enjoy :)

A solid start to the series but it doesn't get that impressive until Sonic 2 and CD roll around with their respective innovations to the series' mechanics and themes.

Yeah, yeah, we can complain about the lack of the spin dash and a handful of bad zones, but come on. For a platformer from 1991, this game is still fantastic. The fluid momentum-based gameplay, the art, the music, it's great! It was a huge deal for a reason. It only looks weaker in hindsight because its sequels are even better.

traps that spring on you before you can react, even when going very slow, as well as some annoying bugs (sonic can get crushed in a widening space...) and just generally unpleasant level design, yeah i'm not a sonic fan

J'avais grave aimé tah l'éééééééééépoque mais après c'est clairement le genre de petit platformer que je re-jouerai pas, j'aime pas me prendre les murs (lowest iq player)

You can tell it was the first. Level design is often dissonant from how you play Sonic. But even with that issue, it is a really decent first attempt.

I don't like sonic all that much

Love to play this game when I was a child, especially love the casino part where there are lots of gold rings. Hate the oil part most.

this game is really good and charming. only bad levels are labyrinth and marble but honestly labyrinth isnt that bad. this might be better than sonic 2 tbh

Playing the decompiled Retro Engine version significantly enhances the experience.

Good for a first attempt. Pales in comparison to 2 and 3.
