Normally, the reviews I write on this site are copied from my Steam reviews, and I just add the score here due to Steam's binary recommended/not recommended system.

This is the first review where my Steam "recommended" will turn into a negative score here. This is what I wrote in my Steam review:
"I recommend this game for an unusual reason: it is an important piece of video game history. The Elder Scrolls: Arena can be excruciatingly difficult, is extremely dated with its control scheme and mechanics, and may be a bit unstable in terms of performance. Because of this, I don't recommend just anyone to play the game in its entirety except for the most dedicated of gamers and fans of the series. But because The Elder Scrolls: Arena kicked off one of the most beloved video game franchises ever, it is worth playing it, even for a bit, to see how the series started and reflect on how far we've come."

Now that I have the liberty of choosing a score, it's going to be low because of what I said: crazy difficulty, dated mechanics and control scheme, and sluggish performance on modern hardware. However, I still think people should check this game out at least for a few minutes for the same reasons I pointed out above: it's an important piece of video game history.

A serviceable dungeon crawler which doesn't lack in atmosphere and charms of its own, but ultimately fails to capture much of what would define this series later on. Recommended only for hardcore fans and completionists.

had a lot of fun with this one, it's so cheesable if you spend some time getting several copies of the oghma infinium on a sorcerer with a custom shield spell to become an immortal killing machine smiting all who stand in your way by bonking them with your staff, super immersive game (actually spooky) and fun dungeon crawling

I played this for 8 minutes
