DO NOT EVER LISTEN TO WHOM SAID YAKUZA 3 IS TRASH.
they do not deserve to be such a fan for this franchise
if you really like the yakuza franchise you will love this game despite its flaws
the only bad thing about it is the enemy guard , sometimes its annoying and unbreakable.
Otherwise its just better than yakuza 1 and 2 in the terms of story , and its the same with the mechanics so there's no big difference.

Cons: The combat is a block-happy chip fest slog where only one combo (X-X-X-Y-Y) is really viable, especially in the boss fights (Rikiya and Lau Ka Long are the worst examples), the middle part of the story barely has anything to speak of in it (aside from the love hotel section), there's way too many substories, and most of them aren't very good (it also doesn't help that some are missable or have fail states like in the first two games), the progression system is trash and takes way too long to fill, and the HLA missions and Hostess Maker minigame are boring AF.
Pros: The music's really good (Lyricism Without Tears is one of my all-time favorite songs in the series), the story has a strong first and last three chapters, and Mine is a great but woefully underutilized villain, and his death is one of the reasons why the plot of Yakuza 4 happens.

Pretty good. As much as I love seeing Kiryu happy the first part of the story definitely drags quite a bit. The latter half just jumps straight into the action though so the pacing is not too great either. Still recommend playing because this game is very important to Kiryu's character going forward.
few parts of the story are stupid in typical early-rgg fashion but this one gets really stupid. mind-numbingly boring infodump scene in the middle. combat could be better & is frustrating early on (but fun by the end).
antagonist is amazing. a lot of the characters are memorable. there’s some fun scenes and heartwarming developments to kiryu’s saga as a protagonist, as well. i wish i could like it more because it has so much potential.

This is definitely the "black sheep" of the franchise. This game is called "Blockuza 3" for a reason, enemies block 90% of your attacks unless you wait ages to just dodge and poke them for damage. You have to be extremely patient which is not something I would want from a Yakuza game. The story is the only redeeming part of this game.
