Very well made when it comes to presentation and content but this game doesn't respect it's players time. The basic level design is more difficult than doing 100% completion of the entire original trilogy. Completely mean and sadistic level design. The new characters are fun and interesting to play as but it adds insult to injury when after beating their segments of a level you end up repeating the rest of the previous crash level you just struggled with. I refuse to ever 100% this game, the bonus requisites are way too high.
Crash 4 is an amazing follow up to the first three classic PS1 Crash Bandicoot games. At the same time, I think this is the worst game I have ever tried to 100% complete.
This game does a lot of things that I love. The music is good, the characters look great, the alternate costumes are neat, the level design is super fun and the multiple playable characters are for the most part great additions that make this my favorite Crash Bandicoot game by far.
However...It is when I want to experience everything that this game has to offer that I feel like I never want to touch this game ever again.
The difficulty in this game is quite frankly absurd. I get that Crash Bandicoot games are like the Dark Souls of platformers and all that stupid nonsense...But this is just unfathomably too much.
- An excesive amount of precise platforming challenges.
- Constant repetition of already pretty hard levels with multiple characters.
- Secrets hidden absolutely everywhere.
- Levels with more than 100, 200, 300 crates to break...I think there is one with up to 500 fucking crates!!!
- And worst of all, levels that are too. FUCKING. LONG!
Now, it's already bad enough to play a hard level that overstays its welcome...But when you have to play it multiple times??!!! WITHOUT DYING?!!!!
These are not just some levels. This is like EVERY LEVEL! Either they are too hard, or too long or too much shit to do, or ALL OF THEM!
I loved this game for the most part, but it truly was one of my worst experiences trying to complete a videogame and I just had a bad time during most of those constant level replays...
I don't want to say that I will never play it again because it makes me sad. However, I'm certain, that I will never try to 100% it ever again...And honestly...I don't think anyone should.

Crash Bandicoot 4 is a blast from the past, but with a twist! It's got those classic Crash levels full of crates, gems, and ridiculous platforming... but adds in new masks, playable characters, and crazy challenges. Be warned, this game is HARD, like old-school hard, which was frustrating at times but also super rewarding when you finally beat that one level. If you're up for a challenge and love Crash's goofy world, this one's a must-play.
I wanted this to be great but it's just not. It's bloated and a frustrating gameplay experience at times.
I found myself dying a lot in ways that go beyond how bad I usually am in platformers. Hit boxes aren't always clear and judging the depth of gap is quite difficult from the back. The checkpoint markers are bizzarely placed in the later levels. Extremely tricky parts go on for ages without a checkpoint and then the easiest parts are bookended with them. It just added to my overall frustration.
It's a gorgeous game but it's not a particularly fun one.

This one's weird to rate and review. If you just breeze through it, only focusing on trying to reach the credits then it's really fun but the more you try to experience beyond that limited scope the more frustrating Crash 4 becomes. There's a great game in here, it can just be hard at times to focus on.
Probably one of the best platformers I've ever played, up there with Donkey Kong Country 2 and Super Mario Odyssey. From the amount of content that this game provides, to the challenging levels, to the amazingly tight controls, to the incredible Looney Tunes inspired animation and the really catchy tunes on the OST; this new entry in the series elevates the Crash franchise to new heights.
