Tried this out for a bit and I'm just not feeling it. This game shares some notes with RE4 but it's just not as effective. What comes to mind is a section very similar to that game, where you're holding off for as much time as you can against a horde of monsters until a hidden countdown makes them disappear. Difference is, this game doesn't feel very clear about what you're supposed to do. Resources feel more limited, so I was concerned about wasting my resources against all these enemies, in RE4 I would've been incentivized to kill them and participate in the action instead of running around like a headless chicken waiting for a countdown I can't even be sure exists. Maybe I'll pick it back up sometime but the castle didn't really do it for me either, and Ethan feels so annoying and dumb in this game.
A perfect blend between the traditional Resident Evil games and the new formula that 7 introduced. Combining the scarier first person gameplay and mysterious scares of 7, with the puzzles, upgrades, and rooms of older games felt so so good.
The world you’re thrown into is so damn interesting, with some great characters to struggle with, and Ethan’s reason to keep going is far more compelling here. The key environments - the village itself, the grand vampiric castle, the Innsmouth inspired village, the stronghold, and the haunted house were a treat to explore. House Beneviento was an exceptional highlight, and has cemented itself as my favourite section in any Resident Evil game.
My only complaint is that this game leant a little too far into it’s action, and had me missing Biohazard’s horror feel. It’s there in parts, and when it is, it’s very good. But other parts towards the end made me feel like I wasn’t playing a survival horror, but a Call Of Duty campaign.
Biohazard does do some things better, but Village felt like a better overall package, and has become my favourite Resident Evil so far.

Everything about this game should be something I don’t love, but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t love most of it. The end is a disaster, but the core combat loop, the interesting world and characters, along with a beautiful aesthetic make this a worthy entry in the series. Superior to 7 in my opinion.
In hindsight they was realizing testing the waters for the re4 remake with all the crafting n shit wish the cooking also made it into the game but it's fine anyway yeah I love this game I played it a lil bit after it came out so I mostly unspoiled except for lady Dimitri but like ofc I'm finna watch all her scenes I'm not patient I need hot vampire women but like I wish I spoiled myself on the whole doll house part of the game like ive never been that scared by a game in a hot minute man fuck thay baby thing bro like how this game gon give me a phobia of big babies and a fetish for vampires like that's crazy but yeah I didn't really care for the fact that the upgrade system didn't have any unique weapon specific upgrades like re4 and the fact that the weapons just get straight up better the more you play like thats kinda lame I just wanna use my trench gun the whole game but whatever I also didn't really care for ethans whole new personality change like at all ive come to terms with it but like id prefer he'd shut the fuck up 90 percent of the time y'know and I don't care for the whole inclusion of Chris like just straight ass what they do with him and my theory is the only reason he's in the game is that they actually wanted to make him a villian and have him be like a werewolf ik the cover but realized how retarded that sounded and changed to what he is in the game but kept the cover cus it's tough (it is toughest cover in resident evil) and we stuck with the shitty ass not twist villian like its so lame but I like his wolf squad and his lil cod section that was fun I wish we could use the wolfs squads weapons but I'll settle for chris's usw that guns sick fav gun in the game and I also think mercenaries is whatever dont prefer over the og but it's like what the point maybe I'll replay it and use the alternative charcters but like I'm tired so ion really care yeah great game 7.5
