in the past

I've never had nostalgia for the Bomberman franchise, and I only played a few minutes of one entry in the past, which I cannot even name, so I was sure that a huge franchise like this has the charm of Pac-Man. I was somewhat right but to my surprise, I also found out that Bomberman is a very simple game that I do not like that much.

Super Bomberman's main mode revolves around the classic "conqure XY amount of worlds, do some boss battles, the end" formula that we all know and love but it is a somewhat confusing experience. You do not know why are you doing what are you doing, the worlds you are in are very hit-or-miss and the moment to moment action is a bit off.

If anyone does not know what I am talking about:
In Bomberman, you are stuck in a maze full of obstacles and enemies. If you want to go to the next level, you need to kill the enemies and find a portal, which only works if the enemies are eliminated. You do this by placing tiny bombs, collecting upgrades/power-ups and try to stay alive. Repeat.

It has more complexity than Pac-Man but in my opinion, it lacks the charm. I can see why Bomberman is still around, it is a relatively easy to sell mascot franchise and casual enough. This game has a lot of sequels, so I guess if I try hard enough, I can find at least one entry that I enjoy.
