a raw fucking stealth game with some real fucking hiding spots. none of that pansy mgs shit. this game is BALLS HARD on the max difficulty, but it's the best way to experience it. exceeded my expectations and made me wanna play the rest of the games in the franchise. only notable downsides are diarrhea boring story and the occasionally bad level.

Like System Shock before it and Demon's Souls after it, Splinter Cell feels like a rough first draft of something brilliant. A lot of the fundamentals of this game like the stealth systems and movement still hold up well, but the design of missions could get rather frustrating when it shoehorns you into either combat scenarios or missions where you are not allowed to kill anyone. Ultimately this game ends up being a mixed bag for me that nevertheless showed a ton of potential.

Stealth redefined, action needs work. Great game for its visuals, good stealth foundation, and story. But the action segments and one level specifically bring it down a few pegs. Give it a shot if you're looking for a real good stealth game. At $10 on Steam, ya can't beat a price like that for a thrilling adventure like this one.

Отличное начало легендарной серии.

Post-9/11 tech thriller atmosphere on the max, the dynamic shadows and nighttime visuals still look cool and moody to this day. Gameplay-wise however its clearly a very rough sketch of what its sequels managed to improve on, the stealth is functional, but the controls are wonky, the combat is dogshit, the detection system is brutally unforgiving at times and your fingers will be on the F5 key non-stop. Lots of trial-and-error in this one as well as some truly nonsense mission design that will make for hair loss.

Terminado após umas 200 horas. De novo.

nothing like using the scroll wheel to walk faster and slower

I genuinely kind of hated playing this game. Apparently the PC version has quick-saving but the original on Xbox does NOT. That means you live at the mercy of the whims of the developer. Is this section one with save points reasonably spaced apart or this one where you'll spend hours doing the same brutal 10 minute section over and over and over. Chinese Embassy 2 I'm looking at you, you motherfucker.

At its core, yes, it's a very cool game. Even in 2024. For one it's still absolutely gorgeous. The shadows and lighting are phenomenal. The goggles. Ah, so iconic. And when everything is going well you truly feel like a predator sneaking through the shadows, picking off guys one by one, and moving through the levels to accomplish your objectives.

But after that it's age starts to show. The awkward controls. A jump and wall jump that makes Sam Fisher feel like some sort of weird unpredictable space man. The shooting is inaccurate and feels awful. The clunkiness of switching through your items through weird menus. A health system where a mistake early on might not be recoverable and you only realize much later in the level and have to reload. The three alarm system that ALSO might put you in a position where you need to reload. AI that is at times predictable and others seemingly mercurial. Gah and the levels that don't let you kill people. People love the CIA level but I fucking loathed that piece of shit.

But fuck it. I beat it. It's over. I just have to make it through Pandora Tomorrow and then finally it's happy days and back to my old love, Chaos Theory.

there is a lot to “like” about splinter cell: the platforming mechanics are cool, the stealth mechanics need so much work but are neat in concept, theres a lot of variety in the items and gear u’ll be finding. beyond that? absolutely nothing of value. the story is incredibly forgettable and it feels like nothing sam fisher does matters at all, zero stakes. the enemy ai seeing and shooting you through walls, the finicky event triggers, its just a beyond frustrating experience. its difficult in unfair and unfun ways, you’ll probably be seeing the mission failed screen 100+ times due to all the ridiculous red taping. sam fisher is a bootlicker who only follows orders and has shitty quips, the stereotypes in here are just a little egregious lmfao. didn’t age well at all.
